I have been stopped on the side of the rode. Flat tire on the highway. I had a lady pick me up and give me a ride to my house. I wasn't even amazed by it. I knew someone would. It's one reason I love this city. It's big with a small town feel.

That would probably not happen here - We even had a flat on the highway at 1 am - called triple A - Not only did everyone pass us by - about 6 cops whizzed by and didn't stop to see why we were stopped on the highway. It took AAA 3 hours to get to us.

I had friend flip over on the highway inthere car.....no body stopped to help them. I was in a car that flipped over on the highway. Someone did stop but after we created all this traffic from the accident people started yelling an cussing us out for holding them up in traffic.....not a friendly place.

i agree Lita that this country is not very friendly..don't think it's a blanket statement, some individuals are friendly..

Right. I of course dont know everbody in the country, but as a general statement, the US is not a very friendly country. many other countries see this in us too. I think it just takes seeing others countries style to realize it. Of course there are other countries worse than us, but there are some better than us. Its just an American style thats all.

absolutely, JG we are not talkin gindividuals here..how many of u fear being left on the side of the road in the middle of the day...b/c b4 anyone stops a 100 ppl will pass

haha, come to LA an see if someone stop for a Black man on the roadside. Lawd! dem run im ova first!

Never been to CA; but I've always thought it probably wouldn't mesh well with me.

its not CA. This state is too bif to generalize it, but its just certain areas I think in the whole USA that a Black man on the roadside aint a good idea.

I really wanted this this question to be infomational, to help others who may find their self in the same situations. How does the US job market recognize their level of education learning. Exclude College that is on another level.

I am aware that their high school education is set up entirely different than ours. Also, their trade school learning is set up different too. i.e plumbling, welding, electrician and computer.

If they have a trade occupation, how do they apply it here?

i have to jump in here. it sounds to me that you are being overly concern about how well a jamaican integrate themselves into american society. i agree that it will take some adjustment but the idea of going out there to get a jobs takes a little more than book smarts. it takes a great attitude and a desire to learn. we maybe from different places geographical but there is a common understanding that if someone wants something they will find the tools necessary to make it happen for them. so yes, i agree that one should prepare for an interview but i also know that despite the cultural difference people can adapt to there surroundings and sometimes that will take good and bad experiences. something you just cannot prepare for. so take comfort in knowing that all those who are trying to make a life for themself will make it happen. don't be so caught up.

NO JG! Its noise, just not "vibes" noise. Its a big difference. No tree frogs at night, no crickets, no bike taxi or chicken or rooster, or old rasta patwah, or the latest selecta in the atmosphere spinning, or little squeaky voice kids in trees, or traffic and JA badwords, or the smell of some roadside vendor grilling. Its way different. The noise is just either not there, or way different.

i totally agree Lita, u know what u can get for Evan for x-mas a subcription to like iriefm or something...he can listen to the local programs and such

That's a great idea. I am getting A a subscription to the Gleaner and the Star for Christmas :D I just hope sams24-7.com is willing to send it all this way and it makes it every week. I am having a hard time not telling him what I am getting him. Imagine his face when he opens the mailbox and the Star is there :D

Here is the link to the newspapers if anyone else is interested :D
