Well u wouldn't have to do a possible interview again..I'm sure there are alot of benefits if we were to do a side by side comparison

There are pluses and minuses to each side of the equation. Just have to figure out what works for you and you are comfortable with. Like JG was saying there are just so many factors and each persons situation is so unique.

Yea JG..hubby worked but we didn't claim it wasn't worth it..until we discovered that is the reason we didn't get his rebate :) but it's all good..still got the $1000 for him when we filed joint.

Yaads..we didn't wait purposely..it was just the way things fell into place and u know everything happens for a reason..no AOS, ROC nothing ..10 yr greencard he can naturalize in 3yrs

Jg..i would think that the ppl wanting to file CR1 should discuss if they are gonna be apart for 2yrs so then they will get their 10yr..it's also cheaper in the end ?

wow..13 of us..and no duppies or guest..for the 1st time in a long time

So what y'all are saying about the CR1/IR1 thing is that you should marry but then wait for 2 years so that you get the IR1...it would be cheaper in the long run cause you would show up with your 10 year green card. Geesh what a stress to have to remove conditions on your CR1.

You have always had to remove conditions on a CR1.

Right...cause it is a conditional card. With a CR1 you only bypass the AOS part cause you do that before they get here. If you or anyone waited for 2 years of marriage and got an IR1 they bypass everything - AOS and ROC.

I wonder if people purposefully wait for their visa so that they will reach that 2 year timeframe...

Interesting. Currently going through the lifting process, I can see a little benefit in that. 2 years just seems like too much time to me to be apart though.

Yeah, I was glad they didn't require that with us. Hoping to slide through on LOC as well.

Are the interviews hard or something/ I wouldnt think the interview is much of a big deal.

Bummer, Kimmy. The thing is, it's not like the warn us before they go and make those decisions. Sometimes I wish I could see just a little into the future!

Wouldn't know that one yet. We haven't had one. For me, it's more of a hassle thing....going downtown and all that. Hate it. I suppose in the next year or so, we will have one for naturalization. I think those are givens.

Some people spend lots of time in the SO's country so they are not apart for so long. If I did that, I would have planned to stay in JA for the first 1.5 years, and then move back here and do 6 months apart to establish domicile. That would have been perfect, but I didnt think that far along.

O i see. Well I work right next to the USCIS office. I see those folks everyday. It seems relatively simple in there. No long lines or anything.

From what I have read about LOC interviews - the majority of them are just picked at random to keep up the whole quality assurance factor and they don't do much in way of grilling you. Now if they suspect you of fraud well then you could be in for a major hard time. Remember talks of the Stokes interview? Similar to that...separate rooms, videotaped, numerous questions...many times really personal. Rare but it does happen.

Kimmy I think he could have or still can file. Dang I forgot what the cut off dates were. But if you didn't file on time you were supposed to still get it up until a certain cut off. Google it and find out.

Opportunities are like sunrises - if you wait too long, you miss them.

I'm glad we went CR1 cause hubby would not be able to stay home for too long

In hindsight I wish we would have gotten married in JA and done either the CR or IR visas. I had already lived in JA for 5 months at that point. I should have just stayed and come back when we were ready to file. I would have loved to stay down there for longer and all that good stuff. At that point K1 was all I was really familiar with and the K3 seemed hard and stressful. Too bad info wasn't more readily available and I hadn't found VJ at that time.

Close enough Lita, wher we lived in NY was quiet and where we are now in CT is double quiet :)
