Jg..i would think that the ppl wanting to file CR1 should discuss if they are gonna be apart for 2yrs so then they will get their 10yr..it's also cheaper in the end ?

wow..13 of us..and no duppies or guest..for the 1st time in a long time

That's what I was thinking too. Cause, I still don't see a whole lot of benefits to going that way yet. I was thinking Marlita's journey might sway me.

It was actually a really good choice for us. I got caught up in a longer processing time than most, cause all other CR1's before me were like 8-10 months tops. its definiely cheaper than K1, and I think its just better for the person moving here. Its more of a personal thing rather than a hard answer of which to do. After all said and done. i am very happy we went this way. it gave me much more opportunities to go to him and visit his friends and fam and live life there for a minute and I realize that makes a HUGE difference for us.

So what y'all are saying about the CR1/IR1 thing is that you should marry but then wait for 2 years so that you get the IR1...it would be cheaper in the long run cause you would show up with your 10 year green card. Geesh what a stress to have to remove conditions on your CR1.

You have always had to remove conditions on a CR1.

Not knocking it, Marlita. Just working out figures out loud and such. I'm happy you are happy with your choices.

For me, it wouldn't have been the right choice. I knew that then and I still know it now. But, yes, definately a personal choice and no one size fits all.

Thanks Rox, he has been asking what type of job is available, but I do not have any experience in the blue collar industry, so I have been trying to be a bit more aware and and look at job posting in that feild just to get an idea of what's out there and what he could do.

Portland, Try your State's Unemployment board - That usually has info about job availability, skill requirements, average wages, etc.... it can be a really good resource. Also the Dept of Labor - they have a ton of info out there.

I did sign Andre up to look around ours and to get updates when new jobs are posted. We scoured the internet and the newspapers. In the end, it was a walk by thing that ended up working.

Thanks Sus, yeah, I know the job fairs are good idea, but I will be out of vacation time when he gets here, plus for taxes purpose i would rather if he didnt start working until January. But, i guest while he is in the house he can browse the unemployment site, they just open a Lowes not far from where I live maybe he can check that out too. He is so not going to enjoy sitting around the house.

Yeah, I was glad they didn't require that with us. Hoping to slide through on LOC as well.

You also might want to be careful there Portland. If a new presidential administration decides to go by the 2008 tax returns for some sort of added refund in 2009, it might be beneficial to have had him make a little money in 2008.

Right...cause it is a conditional card. With a CR1 you only bypass the AOS part cause you do that before they get here. If you or anyone waited for 2 years of marriage and got an IR1 they bypass everything - AOS and ROC.

I wonder if people purposefully wait for their visa so that they will reach that 2 year timeframe...
