I have a topic/question for you guys today.

You know how most of us have met our SO's on vacation or something to do with one of us being somewhere different then just home. And, I said MOST, so no one needs to correct me there. In some of the forums, there is a strong trend towards meeting their men/women online and eventually going to meet them. Many seem to get engaged or even married on the very first visit.

I am so against internet dating FOR ME. And no one has been able to change my mind on that thus far.

My questions are have any of you ever met someone you dated or married via the internet? Do you know someone that has? And if so, how did it progress and how long has/did it last? Were there issues and if so what? Could you ever see yourself doing internet dating? Why or why not?

What? You guys don't own a cape?????????

I have two answers to your question / topic -

First me and internet dating - I have done them all at various times - Some people on those sites seem to just want a chat / email flirt, even though they say they want more - I met a few guys off of dating sites - Some true wierdos (one was arrested after he threatened to bomb the govt center, and they found his garage full of explosives, lol) - I also met a few guys that I became great friends with, no love match. I was always open to it, it just didn't work for me -

But - One of my best friends is from South Africa - She was living there, and sent an email to inquire about some astrology course - she had the wrong email address. The owner of the email she sent it to wrote her back to tell her, they started corresponding, he came to visit - they got married 6 weeks after that first visit, she packed up and moved to the US (got her visa the same day, byatch) - They have been married 10 years, have beautiful twins who will be two next month, and are the happiest couple I know.

What works for one person might not work for another - to each their own.

What? You guys don't own a cape?????????

I bet Mrs.P does :whistle::innocent:

I have dated on the internet. I did not meet my SO that way. Internet dating is cool but I don't know about doing it on an international level. I know people who have and they are still married. (very successful and intelligent woman married to a MENA man) my former boss and as best as I can ascertain it is working for them. Would I do it? Probably not but I think they hooked up because of some online classes they were both doing. In today's times with everything being so hectic especially here in the states people are not very social. I think the internet gives people a way to save time on weeding out people they know they won't be compatible with. That being said people on the internet lie and exaggerate the truth a lot. I have met a lot of people on the internet that I am actually friends with and we hang out on occassion. So it is not bad per se as with most things you have to be cautious and use a certain degree of intelligence if you are going to date on the internet. As for the issues that come up it is the same as any other dating situation I think. I do think that when you meet someone on the internet the relationship tends to move a little more quickly than it probably should. JG why are you against it?

I need the initial interaction to gauge a person. I need to see body language, facial expressions, hear the tone of voice to go with it, how they interact meeting me with what is happening and who is around them. I really go with my first impressions. And, like you say, people can say anything on the internet.

It's just my personal preference. I have no thoughts either way as far as other people doing it.

I did when I was 18, I met this guy on blackplant, we dated for a bit, but it didnt really go anywhere. We are still sort of friends today only because he is my little brother boss now, how ironic. But the reason why I was interested in him or even agreed to meet him was because he was an RC (Resident counsel) at one of our branch campus, so since he work for the University I was little more open to getting to know than I would otherwise!

Last year, when I was going thru my quarter century crisis I went on yahoo personal and started talking to a guy on there we talked for about a month online, and mind you he lived 4 blocks away, and finally we agreed to meetup at the mall we went on three dates and one night he invited me over and I thought it was too late to be making visiting, so when I told him that he said I could spend the night, I told him we didnt know each other well enough for overnight visit, and he was offended and never emailed or called me again! So I put the internet dating to a rest!

LOL Portland girl he wasn't offended that is all he wanted! Sometimes I think the internet is a god send cause I told you things move faster in the internet relationships so that also means you get to see what a person is about sooner also. If you have your eyes open that is! LOL the stories I could tell you but I'm done with all that foolishness for good! but I know people who have been very sucessful. Honey that yahoo personals is a hot mess! Bunch of married men on there. Match.com is the same way! :innocent:

I think part of what has me so interested is that I haven't heard very many yardies say they have met on the internet. FutureMrs/NowMrs comes to mind. I am pretty sure they met on a game site of some sort.

Seems like a whole lot meet Russian women, Phillipino women, and MENA men on web sites.

LOL, yeah I figured as much... But meetup.com is a good place to go (the singles meetup) because you are socializing in a group and you can get to meet a wide varity of people, without the pressures of dating and expectations!

I can tell you this, I would've never been interested in Andre if I met him online. He drives me crazy with his one word, sometimes one LETTER answers, when he does e-mail or IM me. I would've given up and moved along on the internet.
