Job Description

This recruitment is for Social Worker I/II positions in Child Welfare Services (CWS) ONLY. Applications for these positions are accepted on a continuous basis.

Note: THIS RECRUITMENT IS FOR MULTIPLE POSITIONS. POSITIONS MAY BE FULL-TIME, MERIT, TEMPORARY or GRANT-FUNDED. SOME POSITIONS ARE PERMANENT WITH BENEFITS. The term positions may be used to assist Child Welfare in providing uninterrupted services.

BILINGUAL APPLICANTS IN THE SPANISH/ENGLISH LANGUAGES ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY. Some positions may require multilingual skills. If a candidate is selected for a position that requires skills at the Basic level, he/she will be required to successfully pass an examination assessing oral communication, reading comprehension and interpreting skills. If the skills required are at the Advanced level, the candidate must also pass an examination requiring translating text from Spanish to English and vice versa.

Social Worker II Salary, Grade 23: $51,598 - $85,463. May be underfilled at Social Worker I, (Grade 21, Salary: $47,028 - $77,756; or Public Administration Intern (Grade 16, Salary: $42,752). If you are applying for the Public Administration Intern position, please apply to the Social Worker (PAI) Requisition #3387.

CWS provides a variety of supportive services to children and families to help children be safe and healthy within their own family. If protection is not possible in the child's own home, temporary placement in foster care, or permanent placement with relatives or with an adoptive family may be arranged. The following units within CWS provide these services:

ASSESSMENT UNIT investigates reports of alleged child abuse and neglect.

FAMILY PRESERVATION SERVICES provides time-limited, intensive home-based services to families in crisis when children are at risk of out-of-home placements due to abuse and neglect.

CONTINUING PROTECTIVE SERVICES provides services to families where abuse and neglect have occurred, yet imminent danger is no longer present and the family remains together.

FOSTER CARE SERVICES provides case management and permanency planning for children who have been placed in foster care.

FAMILY REUNIFICATION/PERMANENCY SERVICES provides intensive reunifications services to families to reduce the length of time children remain in foster care.

ADOPTION SERVICES prepares the child, who is under the guardianship of the Department, for placement in a permanent family situation.

INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM prepares older foster children for transition from foster care to living independently.

Minimum Qualifications Statement

Please review the minimum qualifications listed for this position. Applicants must meet all the minimum qualifications in order to be considered eligible. If you do not meet all the listed minimum qualifications your application will not receive further consideration.

Minimum Qualification Experience/Licensure/Certification

Social Worker II: Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university that meets the criteria of a graduate social work program accredited by the Council of Social Work Education. One (1) year post baccalaureate full-time (2080 work hours) experience rendering social work services. Field placement while attending a school of Social Work will not be considered as qualifying experience. Licensure by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners.

Social Worker I: Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university that meets the criteria of a graduate social work program accredited by the Council of Social Work Education. Licensure by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners.

Public Administration Intern: Applicants currently enrolled in a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) program, who do not possess a MSW or licensure will be considered candidates for the Public Administration Intern position. If you are applying for the Public Administration Intern position, please apply to the Social Worker(PAI) Requisition #3387. If hired, applicants must provide evidence of possession of a MSW prior to appointment. Applicants will be given a set time limit to acquire the Social Work licensure.

I tried to tell her that, but as you can see I failed. I told her she's married and to try and make it work. This is not some boyfriend she can just say to hell with. The worse part is that she's hurting his feelings, so I told her if she keeps that up he's likely to go back home. So, I said what I had to and staying out of it. She has to find her way. Too many woman running after the ANACONDA...and finding it's not all that. While sex is important, it's not the MOST important thing.
