Yeah, but those are mostly country folk. And, there is a reason for that terminology.....they usually do have red necks and farmer tans on their arms.

OMG, Shrewdie.....do you watch my Big Redneck Wedding???????????? That has got to be the funniest show I ever saw.

hahahah i watched one episode and it was so embarassing!

Yeah, I know about the red neck and farmers tan. Farm girl born and raised, thats why it was so funny to me, hahahaha

Have you tried to explain terms like redneck or hoosier to M? Andre looks at me like I have 2 heads when I do.

The day the bride caught the greased pig and put a shirt on him, I was rolling. My daughter likes to make me watch it.

hahahaha no

but surprisingly enough we have more in common (me being fromt he country and him the bush) than I had in common with some of the people from the cities here in the states

Oh yeah...supposely I stick out by the way I dress????????????

And, I was told I dress Jamaican.

LITA, that is why i get so upset when i go to ja and am still made to feel as if despite my blackness, im still not accepted to a degree. ( i know that may sound crazy to some, but it bothers me )

But are you not accepted because of your blackness or the mere fact that you really aren't a Jamaican?

That is what I was thinking.

Ok so I have a question...

Someone from Jamaica please explain it to me....

Why call someone "Brownin'"? If I am called Brownin and a white woman is called brownin' how is this possible? What is the term really meaning....I'm not yet BROWN so i'm browning...? Personally I HATE THAT TERM. Hate it hate it hate it. Cannot stand when they say that to me and I usually give the "you better back up off this BLACK girl" look to them when they say it. To me its such a divisive term, like in the US when people use the terms "yellow" or "redbone"...cant stand those either. So am i tripping or am I ok for thinking that the term Brownin is not a good term to use?

I've been called it too. I thought it had to do with basically not Jamaican and was associated with money (in my case, yes on the first, no on the 2nd!) .

for me it was weird b/c I was called "whitey" for like the first year or two and then suddenly I was called "brownin" all the way from the drive from MoBay to Manchester I was suddenly called brownin.. from people that had seen me before and people that hadnt

it was really strange

Dwayne told me it's for people who are light and aren't dark. They are in the middle - meaning you looked browned by the sun. However, as we all know terms are used differently depending on di yard.

Intimacy, like charity, begins at home. If we cannot be intimate with ourselves, we have no way to bring to intimacy with another person.

Intimacy with ourselves takes time. We need time for rest, time for walks, time for quiet, and time to tune into to ourselves. We cannot completely fill up our lives with activities and become intimate with ourselves. Nor can we just sit quietly indefinitely and become intimate with ourselves. We have to have the time and energy to be our lives and to do our live in order to establish and intimate relationship with ourselves.

Surprisingly, as we become intimate with ourselves, we discover our connection with others

Intimacy....In/to/me/see...

Well seperating Blacks is a HUGE thing and a very touchy subject that goes back to slavery and beyond. It happens in EVERY Black culture and was inflicted on us to seperate us and control. Its a hard thing to get over and it has caused so many issues in this world, so when I hear it being used I get upset that people are still judging us by our shade of Blackness.

Judging is a horrible thing, isnt it? When I first started teaching, I was one of the few whites and the youngest teacher there with a country accent...and everyone thought I was gonna be like Penny Pilgrim. It didnt take me long to bust that stereotype

also in Jamaica where we live, everyone always thought I should be so reserved and proper. they all just laugh at me now and say "yuh nuh easy"

so even though our stereotypes dont seem to be as opressive or degrading, they are still unfair and ignorant.

ech. I'm glad we arent taht way. We can change the world. Change started a long time ago andw e can just keep it in motion!

My mom has red hair and blue eyes. She can't tan to save her life.

Yes. The melanin in the skin is a bit of a protective layer. If I don't tan just a little....prep the skin as you say....the first time the sun hits it, I might as well be on a spit over an open fire. I turn bright red, blister, peel, the whole 9 yards. The key is to tan just a little though. I don't want to really bake. Just not burn. It's a very fine line to walk.

yaads, i really dont know, but im friendly to a fault... i dont go to jamaica fronting like i am jamaican i speak to everyone and mind my business when its called for, i try to speak patois only with D, cause im learning and he corrects me and if i use american slang, i explain it to him, but seriously some of the unfriendliness or the side comments i hear, when me and d are out, piss me off and in my eyes( mind you i said my eyes) we should look like every other man and women walking down the street or out... Hell sometimes i might as well be the nekkid crazy lady with the shower cap on, for the looks i get at times, i mean the more im in JA the better it seems to be getting but that isnt all the time...

You know, I think its the part of JA u are going to, and I dont think its your Blackness, I think its your Americaness and your dating a Jamaicaness...if you know what I mean. But girl you gotta get out the country and go to Kingston. Wont nobody care what you do, who you date, or what your skin is. There races are all different there. These tourists spots get swarmed with women from other places so I think the Jamaican women in those areas are jsut tired of seeing these guys with them and then going back to Ja women when the foreign lady leaves. Plus all kinds of other stuff to tired to get into.

Oh when I speak...it's very clear that I'm not Jamaican. The women are sometimes not as nice to me as the guys are. Oh but when every I was with my Husband at the hotel or tourist spots...they ALWAYS thought he was American. Never failed.

Does anyone have problems understanding their SO sometimes?

I haven't had that problem...just wondering if other have.

claire, sol pays no mind to that, if she isnt following the thread and i may have a question for her that i need an answer to right then, but she will PM me back 8 hours later, so i usually point it out and highlight her name so she sees it. and sometimes when i get pms or have messages they dont always show up on the board and then when im messing around with the controls i will see it...

No. It's his reasoning I don't understand sometimes. I think that's cause he's a man, plain and simple. His speech I have no issues with.

I have only burnt a bit in the sun...but it was after 8 hours in the pool nonstop with no sunscreen.
