Yeah, but those are mostly country folk. And, there is a reason for that terminology.....they usually do have red necks and farmer tans on their arms.

OMG, Shrewdie.....do you watch my Big Redneck Wedding???????????? That has got to be the funniest show I ever saw.

hahahah i watched one episode and it was so embarassing!

Yeah, I know about the red neck and farmers tan. Farm girl born and raised, thats why it was so funny to me, hahahaha

Have you tried to explain terms like redneck or hoosier to M? Andre looks at me like I have 2 heads when I do.

The day the bride caught the greased pig and put a shirt on him, I was rolling. My daughter likes to make me watch it.

Well seperating Blacks is a HUGE thing and a very touchy subject that goes back to slavery and beyond. It happens in EVERY Black culture and was inflicted on us to seperate us and control. Its a hard thing to get over and it has caused so many issues in this world, so when I hear it being used I get upset that people are still judging us by our shade of Blackness.

They must have x-ray vision cause I am not good at disguishing till I hear an accent. And, then, people like Tre throw me off.

I used to think the same thing. when I would visit I would stay with Husband. I would go into the town with his sisters thinking I should just blend in. Nope..people called me out as foreign girl. However, I did fool this older lady. I stepped on the back of her shoe by mistake and she attempted to cuss me out. I kept walking cause I didn't understand her patios anyway. She went to Husband mom..."telling on me" and she explain that I was american and didn't mean to step on her broke down flip flop. I didn't realize that I had step on her shoe. If she would've just stop and asked I probably would've understood her and apologized. Husband wanted to go find her and give her his peace of mind. I miss my in laws - mother and his sisters.

i will never understand the concept of bleaching ones skin, nor the concept of paying someone to slow roast rotisserie style in a tanning bed

 , haha, this is sooo funny cause I always think its odd when i see people laying out in the UV sun to tan. Especially on a blaxing hot day when the sun is blistering. Its seems like torture to me. I always think, why dont they just get in the water or walk around.....you will still get a tan that way and wont be wasting your time laying there. I guess I just dont get it.

lita they dont call me brownin that i know of, but i still hate the divisiveness of how i feel when i go to JA sometimes?

Shrewdie, it is a term used to distinguish lighter complexioned african americans, if your skin is not very dark then they call you yellow or redbone.

Wow I surprised to hear you all have not heard those terms before and their meanings. They are very prominent in the Black community and very divisive so when I know what Browning means I hate it cause i feel like its yet another Black culture dividing themselves. Its just odd that they call white people it too, so thats why i was thinking there must be another reason for the word.

well, I taught and lived for years in a "black" community and never heard those?? maybe its locationally??

who knows

if they are so offensive Im glad I didnt know what they mean!!

We have a lot of race talks latelty, no?

Lita- how is Evan doing now that he is "officially in the system" with a SS number and all? haha :)

Well, I can answer the tanning one. I am "pink" with blond hair and blue eyes. If I do not at least get a base tan before I go someplace where the sun is very strong, i.e. Jamaica, I will fry in the sun. If I can't get out in the regular sun, I have had to resort to tanning beds before. No amount of sunscreen has ever been able to save me.

this is from wiki pedia, dont know how reliable it is but thought it may interest someone

In the English-speaking world many terms for people of various multiracial descents exist, some of which are pejorative or are no longer used. Mulato and mestizo are used in Spanish and métis in French for people of multiracial descent, and these terms are also in certain contexts used in the English-speaking world. In Canada, the Métis are a people of mixed white and First Nation descent.

Terms like "mulatto" for people of partly African descent and "mestizo" for people of partly Native American descent are still used in English, but mostly when referring to the past or to the demography of Latin-America. "Half-breed" is a now old-fashioned and pejorative term used for people of partial Native American ancestry. Mestee, once widely used, is now used mostly for members of old mixed-race groups, such as Melungeons, Redbones, Brass Ankles and Mayles. In South Africa, and much of English-speaking southern Africa, the term "Coloured" was used to describe a mixed-race person but also Asians not of African descent[citation needed]. While the term is socially accepted, it is becoming an outdated term owing to its apartheid historical significance.

In English, the terms "miscegenation and "amalgamation" have been used for "race-mixing". These terms are now often considered offensive and are becoming obsolete

OMG!! I forgot about Mulatto. Why have I had 2 white friends use this word to describe someone and I had to go off an be like...this is not the time of slavery...we dont use that term anymore. I couldnt belive they still thought it was a term to use in this day and age. It was kinda funny,

In the educational world if I am nto mistaken that is the politically correct term

cant be sure because I am never up on that stuff, hahaah

But are you not accepted because of your blackness or the mere fact that you really aren't a Jamaican?
