Okay, Marlita as a married woman, what is the one thing that is different today, than a week ago. What is the one thing you would do different today than what you did a week ago?

Really the only thing different is sharing the bed space, haha. Its just having another person in the house to be aware or. I think for those with children it may not be that big of a difference. Really it doesnt feel like we are married, just like he's some out of town boyfirend who is visiting. Once he's here awhile it will be different. But the only thing different is just having someone to talk to in the house and to actually see his facial expressions more often.

Although one thing that i feel sometimes is like I took him away from his life before or his fam. thats kinda sad.

Lita, I started to CRY when I read this. I was in Jamaica with Marcel when he said goodbye to his family and friends. We had a week or so with them when he told them he was leaving. It got harder and harder each day and when it came to the final day I've never seen so many grown men cry tears it broke my heart. I'm happy that Evan is adjusting well. Marcel has quiet times when he don't want to talk at all. I just let him be until he finds his way back.

This is my biggest fear about Neil coming up here to Oregon. He is so close to his family and has so many friends in Jamaica, and no matter how much fun Portland, OR is, it will never compare to Jamaica. He is excited to come, and we are having a baby together, but in the long run I feel that if I want to keep this relationship happy and healthy we are going to have to find a way to spend at least a few months out of the year in Jamaica...

I sort of thought that originally. But, in the end, it didn't matter. We will be at least 3 years before we go back. Maybe longer if it's true about there's a warent out for him.

what??? what warrant???

Mrs. Palmer that's what I want this trip to be about, the eye-opening in his space. See Joel has lived here in the US for 9 mos, and we spent six of those months together. We only lived together 1 of those months, so it was like a boyfriend from ut of town. I'm hoping we can capyure the true feeling of living together as husband and wife, before he arrives here to live permantely.

you can! It will be great! I am so blessed that I have been able to spend months there at a time. It makes all of that real :)

MrsPalmer- you are one wise woman! Your input is always appreciated by me! You put a real spin on all the things you reply to. Thanks (L)

Thanks MrsLady...but I just don't understand why anyone would have such a big problem with it. I mean the question could also be turned around into what issues Black Americans have with marrying ANYONE outside of their own culture, and particularly from cultures that are considered "less" or more deprived than others. Some people that I know, and in my own family had issues with me marrying "a Jamaican"---like Jamaicans are lepors, or whoremonging, thieving trolls or something. It all plays in to what others people's stereotypes of people are and I have just never played into that. I honestly believe that if you find someone who is good to you, makes you happy, is honest, and is willing to do whatever he/she can to take care of you, love, honor, and respect you--then by all means PLEASE be with them--or else I WILL! I ain't passing up no good thang when I see it! Mama taught me better than that! Bottom line is you can't let others influence your decision to be happy, regardless of race, culture, creed, gender, whatever. If you do, you'll live a miserable life making everyone else happy, but YOU!

I could not agree more, Mrs. P. However, I have had some issues with people...men and women...who do have issues with exactly what Kimmy said. That is why I was wondering why she asked.

And, there is no stirring of the pot on this issues. Anyone that does have an issue with my relationship can go bit the big one cause I am not giving them the time of day. End of that story. I've heard it all before and it doesn't bother me one bit. Time has been my friend.

Well, I don't care what the race of the individuals are, as long as they respect them as men. I hate it when I hear people say, well he better do this because I made it possible for him to be here. No, that is not correct, Men should be treated like Men.

Women say that, Rox?

I was once told "leave our men alone....why you need to be up takin our brothers..."

I am happy.....happy for the change.....happy cause I think he's a good man.....happy for the possibilities. But, honestly, I'm also cautious. I've been happy on several election days only to be disappointed later when they really didn't do what they said they were going to do. At this point, it's all talk. I'm from Missouri.....SHOW ME!!!!

why is everyone so quiet today?does this mean im gonna have to work today?

Honey, did you get the chicken stock yet?

JG -- that is ridiculous. Did Dre know it was in his name? I made Marcel disconnect everything at the house that his name was attached to. That is crazy. He had a friend that was using his name whenever he got pulled over and the last time he did it he got busted. The officer that pulled the friend over knew Marcel personally and told him that he left for the US back in July. His baxide is still sitting in jail. You know Marcel's right name is not common at all.

Here is a little joke for you all to enjoy

Miss Beatrice, the church organist, was in her eighties and had never been married. She was admired for her sweetness and kindness to all.

One afternoon the pastor came to call on her and she showed him into her quaint sitting room. She invited him to have a seat while she prepared tea.

As he sat facing her old Hammond organ the young minister noticed a cut-glass bowl sitting on top of it. The bowl was filled with water, and in the water floated, of all things, a condom!

When she returned with tea and scones, they began to chat.

The pastor tried to stifle his curiosity about the bowl of water and its strange floater, but soon it got the better of him and he could no longer resist.

'Miss Beatrice' he said, 'I wonder if you would tell me about this?' pointing to the bowl.

'Oh yes' she replied, 'Isn't it wonderful?' I was walking in through the park a few months ago and I found this little package on the ground. The directions said to place it on the organ, keep it wet and that it would prevent the spread of disease.. Do you know I haven't had the flu all winter' :D:lol:

do we honestly think that men/women after growing up with their culture would throw every ounce of it thru the window? i don't this so

When I'm in Jamaica with him, the guys are hi 5ing him and such, perfect example of what i'm sayin

U know why island..not cause ur white but cause ur not Jamaican..ur viewed as an outsider

So I guess I do look like those daymn tourist getting off the boat on Ochi....

hahaaa, how many trips have u had? where do u stay?

u'll be in the "Fam" shortly, u will soon have no color in Jamaica :)

maybe thats why I was mysteriously switched to being called "brownin" instead of "whitey"

who knows.

I do know this about race, we cant ignore that races are different and that our cultures and skin colors are different - but it doesnt have to matter, does it?

here is an email I got and for some reason reminds me of this situation:

There was a blind girl who hated herself just because she’s blind.

She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He’s always there for her.

She said that if she could only see the world, she would marry her boyfriend.

One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her and then she can see everything, including her boyfriend.

Her boyfriend asked her, “now that you can see the world, will you marry me?”

The girl was shocked when she saw that her boyfriend is blind too, and refused to marry him.

Her boyfriend walked away in tears, and later wrote a letter to her saying. “Just take care of my eyes dear.”

Well Kimmy...all I can say is that I will do everything that I can to ensure that my husband's culture is preserved in our home. While I don't really chat patois all that well, I can understand 80% of it (up from 65% a couple of years ago! ) And it will be a MUST that he speak to our children in patois to encourage them that they learn as well. I also plan to teach (and have my husband do so as well) the history and culture of the island...all about holidays, festivals, food, music, folklore, whatver....I want them to know. It's a given that our children's American culture will be learned, so that I am not worried about. I just think it's a matter of respect for all the women and men up here...Respect one another's differences and what each one can offer.

I agree Mrs. p- that is so very important to me too!
