when they say that the 'congressional unit' at VSC is looking at my case. how long does it take for an approval? I haven't seen any updates on the online status and my case was apparently in the hands of an officer as of Tuesday...I don't know what to expect.

if its in their hands now, then it will only be a few days.. I think you did the right thing. you must be proactive in your immigration procedures. you are your best advocate !!! don't be afraid to follow up with a call to your congressmans office again.

Thanks Ronjie...I don't think I was left with a choice but to contact my congressman given the inactivity out of VSC. As you probably know, I have been very patient, but I have a hard time understanding what is going even after all Naturalization rush is done with.

I remember you mentioning that you contacted your congressman. What was the timeline on that?

CJ, when I contacted my congressmen (3) ...there were only 2 that responded and only one that actually made an inquiry and sent me news. They contacted USCIS through email within 2 days after I faxed my consent request/release form. Only a few days after that (2-3 days I think) Senator Johnny Isakson's office had a responce from USCIS. Of curse my petitions just happened to be approved a day or 2 before the inquiry was made. Anyways, my petitions were approved 2 weeks after they received my RFE. I overnighted it and tracked it. After 1 week I followed up with VSC and they told me that my case would be reviewed by the end of the next week (approval). I hope that my experience helps! Hope your approvals come soon!

I thought that I would be happy after my approvals but my petitions were sent to the black hole in between VSC and NVC. After approvals...stay on NVC. If they have not recieved you petitions after 2 weeks you may need to contact your Congressmen again. So I would recommend saving all correspondance between you and your congressmen for future reference if needed.

Good Luck everyone! I am pulling for you guys...hang in there.

Our congressman was actually quite efficient. While he couldn't change a thing about our case, it was his inquiry that led to us discovering where our case was.

well you can contact 2 or 3 congressperson's, but depending on where you live. you will usually only get help or response fron one. you will live in their district or area. there seems to be a big coincidence with some people contacting their congressperson and the approvals just seemed to happen that week with no real tie as to whether the congressional inquiry helped or not. it takes no longer to write a letter to them then it does to post here on VJ. and although you have just a very small chance with the congress office helping- your post on VJ complaining will get no results. think of all the negative effects of waiting this has posed to you and your family and make them aware of this. ( lack of concentration at work, severe financial loss suporting your family in two countries, etc. ) let them know who you are, and the pain you feel.

Well, today we decided to send an email (through the website) to the other Florida senator, Bill Nelson. This time, besides describing everything about our case, we added the information that we are past the 6 months for k3 visas. Who knows... maybe he will give us more attention. Or even better, maybe we will be approved before that!

These past few days I thought I was going to lose my mind... Thank God I feel a little better right now. But I dont know how long we can take before we go completely insane.

Good luck to everyone on the first week of November!

I contacted my local representative in September and just received an approval Friday. I can't say whether the inquiry helped or not, it surely could not hurt. The representative was able to tell me when my case was in the queue to be assigned to an officer. I would say to use any help you can get during the process.

Also while this week is an election week, many senators and representatives are not up for re-election so they should still be able to respond to inquiries in a timely fashion.

and more reason for the ones up for re-election to pay close attention to their constituents needs and requests ;)

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!
