Yep, those are simple tips to make the life easier for them to go through the application, it's not a requirement that you'll get denied or RFEd for lack of holes.

Exactly.

So follow the best you can, and don't worry so much.

Follow best you can? How hard is it to punch some holes in paper and attach a fastner and stick on some tabs.

Well, obviously it has caused some confusion!

My point is that if you miss one of the "tips", it's not the end of the world.

You probably think I'm the biggest moron around because I didn't follow their tips. But whaddya know, we were approved without any problems.

It also would help ensure documents didnt get lost.....how many of those RFE's that we have seen where documents that were originally sent were requested again, were lost as a result of not using punched holes with acco fastner as suggested in the tips. The assembly tips are there for a reason or why would they bother.

This time around? Seriously, you've got a stomach ulcer ahead of you if you're already stressing out this much now about the little things. RELAX, we aren't building pianos here :D

And so he did what countless punk-rock songs had told him to do so many times before: he lived his life

10/07/2006 WEDDING DAY!

11/14/2006 AOS packet made it to 'the box' after being overnighted.

12/02/2006 Paul had biometrics

12/14/2006 AOS Forwarded to CSC AND AP Application approved.

01/17/2007 First touch of 2007 at CSC

01/20/2007 Touched AGAIN (also the 18th) come on...

February: Oops, RFE for a REGISTERED marriage certificate. Oops! Overnighted it.

02/28/2007 Paul gets email letting us know his GREENCARD is on it's way! It's done...for now!

03/09/2007 Paul's greencard arrives. And breathe...

We began with mailing the I-129 in on February 27, 2006 so the whole process took us approx. one year.

Good luck out there!

Nope though if bribing an official with a hand built piano were an option...

Seriously, i realize how important this is to all of us and we ALL understand the stress. But a lot of people were trying to help him and he was getting a bit um, shirty. Only trying to make sense of it all.

Honestly, if you punch the holes and don't pass something through the holes it won't make a difference in the "OMG, we lost their paper, get them an RFE saying it's their fault, quick!" world of USCIS. And I think they don't say punch and hold them together. ACCO fasteners do the trick as well, so I dunno how precisely you have to follow the tips, even though they're very good tips and I did all but the punched holes and the tabs. I did read about not using paper clips 'cus they rust and all that.

Well-----so there is an acco-fastner that doesn't need the holes--? I thought they went hand-in-hand?

Thanks again for all the helpful comments---it calms me down just to be able to talk about the whole thing.

We used a fastener that was more like a paper clip.
