Hi All,

Recently my fiancee and I married. We are filing the AOS paperwork and wanted to to also have her name changed to her married name on her Philippines passport to avoid any possible problems when we travel outside of the country next year. Can anyone tell me exactly how one would go about doing this? Thanks.

Sincerely,

DW

Hi there

SC is served by the embassy in D.C. so follow this link and select the 'amendment to passport' form which instructions. Should be able to apply by mail.

I would advise you wait until your wife changes status to change her name, there is no rush on that, its easier when you get your C green card then you change it here in the usa and also get your SSN and then change her name. its going to be a hasse with paperwork and documents you will submit for AOS, WAIT get your green card, then change your name, remember all the documents you will submit will have her name on it, its just going to be easier.

She can have a new passport with your name on it from Her embassy in a week, just finish with AOS before you incure more bills and investigations.Remember she has no legal USA documentations yet, so you might have a few bumps,no State ID and all that, she might have to present just more than her passport and marriage certificate when she wants to take up your name. It takes a couple of hours to do this in the usa, just go to any district court and they will tell you about the process. goodluck in your journey

Thanks for the information. My wife and I had already applied for her name to be changed on her SS card. Will this cause a problem when we file the AOS forms? We will wait to change the name on the passport until after everything is completed with the AOS.

You won't have any problem when you do the change of status. The name you choose to put on the forms when you file for your EAD and AOS are what becomes your legal married name later.
