I live on an island, so got up early to catch the first ferry off the island - 4:40am. Ferry takes 20 minutes and then it's about 45 minutes to the airport. Flight was to leave at 7:55. The next ferry wasn't until 5:30am so had to be on the 4:40 in order to assure proper check in time and such. Anyways, get on the ferry and THEN decide to check on my luggage in the back of my truck that my boys loaded. They FORGOT my main piece of luggage the one with all my clothes (except 1 pair of pants and 1 shirt) even my sexy nighties and nearly all the gifts for SO's friends and family and my wedding present to my SO. I was crushed, there was absolutely nothing I could do, I had to catch the plane so could not go back for my luggage. By the time I got to the airport I was feeling better and just let go of the whole situation and figured I'd be ok, I'd get a couple more things while I was in Dakar and move on with my vacation. On the plane just about the time we should have been taxi'ing out the captain informs us that there was a computer malfunction and they needed a new computer chip but one was on the way so it wouldn't be more than 20 minutes. I began to worry because my layover in Atlanta was only 58 minutes. 35 minutes later we were informed that the chip was the wrong part and the nearest part available was about 1 1/2 hours aways by plane. So we all unloaded and waited. Then just before the plane with the new part was to arrive there was a security breech so NOTHING was allowed in or out of the airport - that lasted an hour (maybe more I lost track of time)!! They attempted to find me a flight to still get to Dakar tomorrow morning but there were no flights that I could make. So, had to opt to stay in Seattle for the night and leave tomorrow morning arriving in Dakar on Saturday morning. The good news out of this is that my mom is on her way right now bringing me the suitcase that was left behind :D

Sometimes things happen in strange ways for unknown reasons.

Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented immigrant" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensedregistered pharmacist". (because somebody gives a damn)

  • 2 weeks later...

The trip has had its ups and downs but SO has been absolutely marvelous. We were even stuck out in the bush for 2 days because of car problems. He hardly slept at all because he kept vigilant dut over me fanning me so I could sleep and killing any mosquito that dared to come near me. God has TRULY blessed me with an wonderful husband. He waits on me hand and foot, never wants me to stress myself to do anything, seriously, I cant een scratch at a mosiquito bite without hom pushing my hand away and he rubs it for me. We were married on the 3rd in a civil ceremony in Theis, it was nice, SO had to translate during the entire thing :) I have lots of pictures but now way to get them off my card right now. I am going to write about my entire trip on a blog somewhere. It has been amazing and only half over. GUESS WHAT????????????? I ate bush pig - something I never thought I would even try, and it was good. I think I am going to go back home at least 10 pounds heavier, because SO CONSTANTLY makes me eat - even asks me to eat past full LOL.

I'll post later.

Welcome back. The attentiveness you received reminds me of my SO. He fanned me, chased after mosquitoes, carried my water, cooked my food and cleaned and made sure my stuff was all zipped up and proper. Neat freak :P

Whatcha wanna bet it won't be like that if they are here ? Seriously though I appreciate the hospitality I received and I know it made you feel special.

I would try roasted pig over roasted rat any day. :P

Now we want to see the piiiiiiiiiiiiics :protest:

A.K.A. Bushmeat.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

They will be so overwhelmed when they get here that we will be waiting on them hand and foot. ;) Face it ladies, the first few months are going to be rough! Almost like having a child, eh? My fiance and I joke about that. I said are you going to be a big baby when you get here? He'll laugh and say maybe! You gonna take care of me? Oh yes I sure will! The OT is "journey of patience and faith." So true! Honey, don't put anything metal in the microwave or you'll burn down the house, ok? What's a microwave? Hee hee... Hmmm.... he might know what one is, but every time I've been over there I've never even seen one. Anywhere. Now I'm curious and will have to ask him.

We were washing our laundry one day and I was complaining about having to wash by hand. I said I want my frickin' machine, my clothes don't get clean this way. Now every time we talk if I say I am doing laundry today he says (quite seriously) in your frickin' machine?

In time as they get over the culture shock, I think it will be more balanced but I absolutely am not counting on him to be waiting on me hand and foot when he gets here. It will be quite the other way around for a while.
