Dear VJers,

i finally bought a new laptop, not the Mac like i wanted, but something a little cheaper.

Here are my questions:

Am i supposed to run the battery out before i start charging it?

It is already installed in the computer, but can i just plug it in and start installing the software... or should i run the battery out, and then fully charge it again?

Have you ever heard of this? (Someone told me to do this)

Many thanks!

Lithium-Ion batteries do not have memory problems, just recommended to charge it completely the first time you use it.

So Yes you can simply plug in and start using the computer, it will charge the battery while using it.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

True on lithium-ion batteries, we keep our notebooks plugged into the power pack 24/7, power packs not only supply voltage to the computer, but go into a maintenance mode to keep the battery fully charged. That way it's ready when you want to leave. Also have a vehicle power adapter to keep the battery charged while in the car. In a way, the portability of a notebook is a joke, can only use it at most for a couple of hours.

Last go around with US customs at the airport or whatever they call themselves, wanted to confiscate my notebook because I couldn't turn it on, battery was dead. But did have the power pack with me, and we were running all over the place trying to locate an outlet. Finally did, switched it on, guy said fine. Thought that was crazy. Never travel via the airlines without your power pack handy.
