Secured Credit Card?

My husband has finally been getting credit card offers. However, the first one he applied for was denied because of his lack of credit history.

I called Sovereign to ask if they have a secured line of credit, but they don't. Any other reputable banks that offer them? If I remember correctly, we'll have to put down some money up front which I'm not looking forward to the way the economy is going.

I got my first credit card when I was 17 with no credit history and it's been so long, I have no idea how I ended up getting approved.

We got Isa a secured credit card through Orchard Bank and they have a good rate and I believe the annual fee was waived. After that she has received 3 unsecured cards, the next thing will be to get her an installment loan like a car loan. Good luck with everything.

I would recommend adding him as a joint holder to one of your credit cards. It'll help build his credit and he can get his own later. See this for more explanation: http://banking-law.lawyers.com/consumer-ba...redit-Card.html

Melissa,

Try Capital One, they have a special card to help people with no credit or bad credit. That's what my husband did after being rejected time after time for not having any credit. He got it for $500, 0% APR for six months and they've raised it to $700. He has really good credit now since we pay it off every month. And the best part is that it's not a secured credit card, so you won't need to give them any money up front. After a few months he can apply to other places and he'll be approved without any hassle.

BofA has the partial secured credit card - our graduated to non secured in 1 year or so. We put $99 and get $500 initial credit.

Capital One was also one of the first one to offer me credit card - start with $500 credit limit & it will grow from there.

Good luck!

I had 0 credit history when I applied for my Merrill Lynch credit card....I was approved for a $1000 line of credit which is really good for having no credit history...You do not have to put any money down....And be careful on which credit card company you select, I went with a Best Buy credit card and they approved me for a $300 limit :(...With the Merrill Lynch...After 7 months of having it I asked for a credit line increase and was denied!! I paid off my balance in full and asked again 2 months later and they raised me to $1,500!

Here is there website: https://www.card.ml.com/MLRewardsCenter/

I have the the black card, total Merrill +

It is a really easy website to navigate, and you can connect your checking account and pay off the bills online....Bank of America recently bought out Merrill Lynch for 50 billion dollars.

**The biggest advice and tip I can give you is apply for the card over the phone, to a human being...If you apply by computer you get a computer response...You want to talk to a human being over the phone...Come to think of it I had a bad mark on my credit report when I applied and they still approved me**

Capital One is run by the devil.......The other's sound good.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

Agreed. My hubby now has excellent credit by going this route.

Thanks for the advice in this thread, I just applied for a Capital One card and got approved (no prior credit at all) :) They may or may not be the devil, but I really need to build up credit as we want to go for a mortgage soon. Waiting to see what the credit limit is when it arrives! We're also going to get me on hubby's credit cards, I'm happy as I really didn't think I would get anything on my own with no credit (if I try to check my report, it basically tells me I don't exist).

Removing conditions:

10/9/10 - Package sent to Vermont

10/13/10 - NOA1 date, received 10/18
