Hi everyone. Well, my guy will be finally coming up here next week. I am very anxious because it's been 2 and 1/2 loooong years since I've seen him. :crying::dance: I gotta clean my house etc and etc. Anyway, I was wondering if it would be ok to buy separate tickets. One ticket from Lagos to JFK and then another from JFK to the final destination. Would they give him trouble seeing that he has two separate tickets? We need to purchase these tickets right away. Thank you.

If they are not ticketed as one you will have only one free bag in the US and have to pay a little for the second. But congrats Wish my fate was as pleasant.

Depends on the airline, some charge for the first bag as well.

To the OP: Make sure that your SO has enough money to pay for checked baggage. I'm not sure what the prices are, check with the airlines you are booking him on.

Congratulations and have a great reunion :)

I think there could be a problem with two separate tickets. If you buy the 2 flights as one ticket, then if his first flight is delayed, the airline will have to put him on the next/first available flight onwards, as it's their fault he missed the second flight. If you buy two separate tickets with different airlines and he misses the second flight due to the first being delayed, the second airline doesn't *have* to, as to them he just didn't turn up in time, it wasn't their fault he didn't make it. I think this is true, I have always bought one ticket for both flights for his reason rather than risk this happening.

Congratulations and hope you have a great time together :)

That's the least of your worries. I always traveled like that. I'd purchase a ticket to

fly into JFK; then a separate ticket to use once in the states. My ex. came here the

same way from Lagos and he didn't have any problems.

Now cleaning out closets, making room for him was my biggest problem.....hey, don't

forget to give the top of the fridge a quick wipe over hehehe.

Congratulations and happy reunion !

I noticed that you have an attorney, Omoba. Would you recommend him for the K1 visa? Also, I've been checking the costs, and the average one is $600. I plan to file early next year.

$600 is cheap for an attorney for a K1. I asked mine and he charges $1500 for a K1 and $4000 for our waiver which is the low to medium going rate.

Unless you anticipate a particular problem you really don't need an attorney. Research the VJ guides ( tap on top of page ) ask around in the appropriate forums to get any questions answered you don't understand about the process and save yourself the money. If you still would like my attorney's contact info let me know, I picked him out of about 40 attorneys I looked at , read about or interviewed. Be careful which one you pick, I have read over and over again that some have really messed the process up with delays and members had to end up firing them. Ask for references and call these references for feedback if they were happy with him/her.
