Hi!

It's SO funny (or not... ): everybody thinks that my husband and I are divorcing!!! Anytime I meet someone I know there's the exact same dialogue:

Person: "Hi! Aren't you at the States? What about your husband? How long are you staying in Portugal?"

Me: "No... He's in the States... I don't know, maybe 1 month, maybe 2, maybe 3..."

Person: "Ah..."

I see that look in everybody's face: "They are divorcing, I knew it! They're not even living together anymore! "

It's hilarious!!!!! Does it happen to you too?

GOOD LUCK!

e-migra

It's very annoying.

I cannot believe they can be so lacking in delicacy.

I just got visa and I haven't got that yet, but my husband

who is waiting for me in the States is often asked when

I am moving into the States. I have to take care of not

only packing but also my parent who is in hospital, etc...

Everyone has different situation. I often wonder why

they just don't mind their own business.

and we don't have to explain everything to them but they

get suspicious.

If someone tells me that kind of thing, I will just think,

oh, they are not happy about themselves and looking

for someone who is not happy so they feel better.

 oO we need noise canceling headphone. = ignore :star:

I get the "oh, you guys will never last"

I feel like saying "why is it ok for you to tell me my marriage is doomed to fail? What if I told you that"

I think that couples, who go through this process and face the difficulties brought upon by these delays, are more likely to stay married happily since they will come to appreciate the times together by remembering the times spent apart...at least in most cases.

 I agree!!

already worked hard together and conquered difficulties together thru Visa Journey.

if our relationship is weak, we never came to this point. :)

Some dumb people around my place too often give me this nasty acknowledgment rebuttal whenever they're asking me, hey!, where's your husband? why you didn't join him going back?. As soon as I answer them, oh, probably next year. they would usually give me a facial expression that's thinking while nodding. aha! she was just left out by her husband and probably will never come back. I dont care whatever facial, verbal expression they throw to me, I don't owe them explanation why I'm still here in PI.

ohh.. I can't wait to just be gone and never see these people again.

I expercienced this too  .. I just laugh on my thoughts when I remembered it. Beacuse people who did not know how long for the VISA PETITION TO GET DONE they are thinking a lot of things is going on the relationship. To everyone out there PLEASE LET US BE STRONG. WE WILL MAKE.

That is so right. I want to see all the people who told me and him its not going to work out. We've been through it all and are still here. We know we will last this deployment and then its a 'happily forever'... because we've seen the separation, worked on our relationship and built a solid foundation and have no doubts about our love and commitment to each other.

My husband gets it all the time, alot of ppl said to him it's taking long because she left you and she is just not telling you.

He and i just brushed it off, that wasnt even half of what ppl were saying.

Tis what happens when ppl have nothing better to do!

Heh, I was 16 when I met my fiance, so as you can imagine, I had endless comments about it. When I was 18, I was open about our relationship and going out there to visit him, etc... my best friend at the time, her mother, used to make comments about my "imaginary boyfriend"... and others would ask if I'm still talking to "that internet boyfriend", and smirk. I always kept my cool, and stayed calm while they asked me how I knew he wasn't a pervert, how I knew he wasn't cheating on me... my brother even said that "you're not going to be together permanently..."

I'm almost 22 now and we've survived more than they can ever understand. I know that sounds cliche, but it's true. We're lucky to have been able to visit each other often, but walking away and not knowing the next time we'll be holding each other has been heartbreaking. I know that none of my friends could handle that, and have seen/heard it for myself. Going through this process at a young age is extremely difficult, luckily we have no children.

I even made it so that my extended family could meet him this year, and one of them (who often made little comments about how it's "just a phase" and we're "not that serious") wrote to me a week later saying how she thinks he's great, and wishing us the best.

I only wish I could go and speak with my ex-best friend's mother and say "look at us now!" We're still together, we're getting married, and I'm giving up everything to have a life with him, while you continue to struggle staying together with your partner for more than a month at a time.

:) That felt good.
