It's not a waste of time, more like voluntarily putting yourself in misery. It does not yield much information but that is because they can't say anything until the checks are done, this we know, so calling even with this knowledge is wasting your own time. For you guys I suggest not calling DOS anymore but waiting until a month in between calls to hear if the checks are complete. This way you can contact the embassy to check on the status of the case as the visa is usually issued in a few days/weeks following the AP clearance and after the CLASS check is done as well as embassy review.

I just called DOS again. Spoke with Chris.

Him: "It just shows that the case is still undergoing administrative processing."

Me: "Can you tell me what stage of processing it is currently in?"

Him: "All I can see is that the case is still in administrative processing."

Me: "I am kind of confused...the embassy wrote my senator and told him that they cannot issue the visa until they receive word from DOS. Why is that?"

Him: "I can't tell you how long it is going to take. All I can see is that it is in administrative processing."

Me: "Okay, but my question is why did the embassy official inform my senator that they are waiting for word from DOS in order to proceed with processing the visa?"

Him: "I don't know."

Me: "The last time I called I was told that the case was last updated on August 27th. Have there been any updates since then?"

Him: "Yes, that was done in the last 30 days."

Me: "Okay, well that's all. Thank you."

Him: "Okay. Good luck."

Why can't they give you an ounce of information? Ridiculous!

It's a matter of "national security" don't ya know. Hmph. I've been told by the people at the 202 number, the consulate in Dakar, and also my senator's office that they can't see any updates or progress of the security checks. The embassy said they can see either complete or incomplete and that these "updates" are our inquiries, etc.

Hang in there Julia, it'll come. Did you ask your Senator to do an inquiry with the DOS? You should do that, it won't hurt.

i just called DOS,

his name was james very helpful...

told me its stil under AP.. then i asked him about the last update, he said what do you mean last update? then i said i heard about a followup being done within last 30 days, and he said oh ok hold on and thencame back a min later. and this is what he said!!

basically if you have been in AP for 120 days or longer then either DOS or EMBASSY will put in a follow up. as mine was done in september he said.. i said who did that yall or embassy he said it could be either embassy in chennai or us. and since it was done in septemebr ( did not give me date) he said another follow up would be done in january then. but embassy can request at any time since mine was requested before the 120 day mark....

so keeping fingers crossed.. julia we both are in the same timeline for AP..

i asked him so basically we can hear something anytime now, he said ya.... BUT i am starting to put things together now.. after all my talks and answers, AND CHRIS TOLD ME THAT IF A FOLLOWUP WAS DONE WITHIN 30 DAYS (SOMETHING LIKE THAT) THEN AP CAN BE DONE WITHIN ANOTHER 30 DAYS... FOLLOW? PPS? I KNOW IT CAN BE CONFUSIN BUT I THINK IF SOMEONE REQUESTS A FOLLOWUP ON OUR CASES IT CAN BE A GOOD THING.. ACCORDING TO CHRIS HE SAID "IT CAN BE DONE" MEANINIG I THINK ap CAN BE OVER!!

I know the Dakar embassy is doing regular checks on the status of our case. That is a good thing, it means it's not forgotten sitting in pile somewhere. The reality is that our AP could be finished tomorrow or it could take another month or it could take another 4 months. Nobody knows but God.

Well the good thing is they don't treat anyone as special or discriminate against anyone like oh your voice sounds too naive so I will lie to you or you sound evil so I will withold information lol. I talked to Chris many times and he is always the most straightforward one. Think about it, if you get lied to and here you AP will be done "next week" and it never happens, its better to know that yes it's in AP and that's about all they can tell ya.

I'm telling you guys over and over don't call so much or inquire every week because it is painful to hear that there has been no progress. Instead I encourage contacting the senator if 3 months has passed and that way it also gives time for things to actually happen.

Also AP ends very abruptly as well so even if you get down from hearing no progress, you can have case comleted status the NEXT DAY!

I know everyone handles this struggle a different way and nothing anyone says is as important as what your individual selves have made your minds up to do but it will really help to not think about updates all day and take a break. Check up 2 weeks later and that way the time interval between the disappointments will be longer and make time go faster. I know this all sounds ridiculus but you guys have to trust me on this, I did AP longer than all of you and my case was complete without any notice. Now we wait for the visa and I reflect on how I spent my days in worry and calling every other day and driving myself nuts. I notice I was always better off focusing on myself, my relationship, going shopping, working, studying an praying, and sleeping for the two weeks, giving myself a mental break than constantly constantly worrying and becoming a nutcase.

Take a breather for a week or two and let the processing happen. The embassy/DOS did NOT forget about your case. You WILL get the visa if your marriage / engagement is valid and for all of you that I know here, they are very genuine relationships.

Remember, every day is the day AP can be completed.

God bless,

Tam

The only sense i can make of this is that she said it was in the immigrant division cuz he will be staying in the US and now has been moved to the non immigrant division. Maybe this means wont be too much longer. K-1 is considered a non immigrant visa. Now maybe all that is left to do is what they do for non immigrants when they apply for visas who knows just a thought. She did say this is the last phase of the administrative process. God I hope so.
