Which I am sure is potentially true. I imagine you are thinking of David Koresh and other freaks of the sort.
It's not just potentially true. It's happened. One case - for example - Ruby Ridge. Killed a man's kid and his wife - and his dog!

As for freaks - so, what - they're not deserving of protection against the government?

Ummm well, I hear what you're saying, and to an extent I agree with you...but I really don't want to prepare to wage a war against the US government, any more than I want to prepare to wage a war against home invasion.
Even the Boy Scouts know that one should always "be prepared." Consider - you may not be prepared, but you can bet that your enemies are. Beware.

Of course they deserve protection from government abuse. As much as people know they should not be taking people hostage as in Ruby Ridge.

and the gov't shouldn't shoot an unarmed mom holding an infant ...

there again ... the infant could have gone off ... and the fart could have been aimed at an ATF agent thereby causing serious harm

I thought federal agents could tell the difference between a fart and something more. Oh well.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I'm more likely to get a toothache than have a shootout with the US government.

But I don't prepare myself by keeping a dentist in the house.

Jabberwocky got that covered!

 free dental health care

now the line forms here ... so the rest of vj gets free dental care too

I believe that just as we teach our children to cross the street safely, we also need to teach them about safe handling of firearms.

Even if you don't have one at home, there's a chance a child could come across one at a playmate's home. It happens.

I absolutely don't think that 8 year olds need to learn to shoot automatic weapons, but even taking a child to a gun range,

and letting them pull the trigger on a 22 caliber gun, into a ballon, will give them a lot of respect for the danger of a firearm,

and take away some of the curiosity.

CLEARLY, anyone that lets an 8 year old fire an UZI, is an idiot. But just like crossing the street and sex education,

we can't be silent on the issues and hope the children will just avoid bad situations, or know what to do when they're in a bad situation.

i understand about the home defense thing, my partner is pretty adamant about protecting his territory and i respect that. however i don't think anyone needs to fire automatic weapons, what exactly is the argument for that? i fail to see what the justification for that is, are we in a war zone? anyone who says they are justified is simply wrong.

i agree about children learning how to use them to show them how dangerous they are but it needs to be made clear that they are not toys which is what sounds like happened at this gun show, sadly.

But I don't prepare myself by keeping a dentist in the house.
Not very cost effective for a dentist...but hey, what's your freedom worth?

Let's just say I wanted to make a major investment into an arsenal. I'm in Illinois. I'd still be restricted from Class III purchases.

So I'd have to move to another state to have the kind of firepower it takes to hold back an army...at least what I'd personally want for a SHTF package.

Moving, investing a lot of money into something I hope I'll never have to use...guess I'll just remain a wuss...

I'm not disagreeing with what you think on this subject, and I whole wheat heartedly would fight for your freedom to own what you want, and say what you want. It's just not for everyone, and it's not for me. Please allow me the freedom to be a firearm owner that's just a wuss.

Its not the last time they've behaved this way. It all depends on how you 'train' them- specially if you tell them they are serving the USA.

do you really have any idea what the current costs of C iii firearms are? They are an investment ...

Oh, well, that can influence your take on things.

Some just can't wait to use their stuff - to see the look on the faces of the oppressors when one lets loose with one's supply of goodies - and the rounds go right through their body armour and vehicles like melted butter - and they get all scared and #### their pants. Now THAT'S a priceless moment.

Some people just don't like tyrants very much.

The North Hollywood Shootout should be an inspiration for us all.

I hear ya loud and clear on that..."A direct hit with a BB gun is more effective than a direct miss with a canon."

ita

and I'll add ... " a well placed "direct hit" ...

c iii are just fun to shoot ... I like 3-round burst better ... easier to control. Only ... with the cost of ammo ... they are expensive to feed.

my preference ... give me a good SS any day.

No way. A BB aint' gonna do ####, even if you hit the guy in the eye you're aiming at. Making him blind in one eye isn't necessarily helpful. However, if you're aiming your canon at him, and you miss, and you happen to blow up the police car next to him, you can bet that's going to be helpful.

No, why?? Since when does defending against the tyranny of government make one angry?
