why would someone breaking into your home ... use your guns? why would they not bring their own weapons for a "hot" job?

It happens more than you'd think. Where do you think all the "stolen guns" come from?

They come from homeowners who fail to protect their firearms properly.

No, criminals don't usually look to use your guns, but if they come across it before you do...they're not going to yield to putting

a whole into you.

whole what? wheat?

how about ... homeowners who aren't home and leave things unsecured?

I mentioned "hot" job ... please posts statistics to support that all stolen guns come from this type of break-in ... I'd like to review

Um... yeah...
Yeah, it's not like these operatives have ever been known to do things like kill innocent women, children and even pets in the course of trying to "get their man".

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

Why do people always assume that home defense refers to protecting oneself from criminals??? The FAR MORE important reason for private citizens to own guns is to protect themselves against the tyranny of the federal government and its operatives!!!!!!! This cannot be overemphasized.

Little Joe Homeowner with a shotgun doesn't have much defense against the local branch of the ATF, FBI, DEA, DHS and whomever else. However, give Little Hoe Homeowner several thousand rounds of armour-piercing ammunition, fully automatic weapons that can fire 1200 rounds per minute, and some good body armour - well - now that may be just enough to hold off tyranny - at least for a little while.

Ummm well, I hear what you're saying, and to an extent I agree with you...but I really don't want to prepare to wage a war against the US government, any more than I want to prepare to wage a war against home invasion. I firmly believe that the government should fear her people, not the other way around...but putting together a SHTF arsenal is not where I want to invest my time, money or energy. But next time I'm in your neighborhood, I'd sure like to put a few rounds through one of your Class III units.

Which I am sure is potentially true. I imagine you are thinking of David Koresh and other freaks of the sort.

It's not just potentially true. It's happened. One case - for example - Ruby Ridge. Killed a man's kid and his wife - and his dog!

As for freaks - so, what - they're not deserving of protection against the government?

Even the Boy Scouts know that one should always "be prepared." Consider - you may not be prepared, but you can bet that your enemies are. Beware.

Of course they deserve protection from government abuse. As much as people know they should not be taking people hostage as in Ruby Ridge.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Such a tragedy.
And why exactly is this a tragedy, worthy of national news? Is there a big shortage of 8 year old boys in the world that I should be concerned about?

The only tragedy here is that this event may negatively impact me and millions of other responsible, law-abiding citizens.

Dude. Not cool.

First of all, it's quite frequent that in poor neighborhoods, people are attacked and forced to eat whole wheat bread. It's happened so much, that law enforcement just says "whole", as in "Look at the size of the whole (wheat) in that guy's head"....thanks for the correction.

As to statistics on firearms obtained through home invasion or burglary, I couldn't find any, but I also did not quote a specific number...rather I asked where you thought "stolen guns come from", as in even without empirical data, we know that SOME stolen firearms are stolen from homeowners.

And don't be surprised if legislation follows, restricting the firing of automatic weapons to those over 18 years old (or even 21). If a trained and experienced firearms instructor can be so stupid, it gives the anti-gun lobby plenty of ammunition (gallows humor at its worst) to get something like this on the books.

what a tragic story.

there isn't current legislation against children using firearms? why does anyone need to fire an uzi unless they are in the military? sounds like a case of napoleon syndrome to me.

i was looking for some info and discovered this...

"Did the US ban assault rifles?

President Clinton signed into law a measure that banned assault rifles in 1994, but the law expired in 2004. The NRA welcomed the expiration of the law saying it was "good riddance". "

the nra never fail to say something stupid. i'm not anti gun but cmon, how can anyone justify that?

That ban had nothing to do with a fully automatic Uzi..... Nothing.... not one thing. The ban was about semi-automatic rifles that looked dangerous. Get your facts straight.

It's a tragedy for the father and family. I've been to one of these machine gun shoots and it usually is very safe. Much safer than driving to the event in a car. So sorry for the family.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senator Barack Obama
Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

and the gov't shouldn't shoot an unarmed mom holding an infant ...

there again ... the infant could have gone off ... and the fart could have been aimed at an ATF agent thereby causing serious harm
