Hi all,

I'm waiting for approval of my I-485, and noticed my online USCIS account was updated with:

Application Type: I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Current Status: DOCUMENT OTHER THAN CARD OR TRAVEL DOCUMENT MAILED TO APPLICANT

I've Googled what this could mean, but haven't found anything.

Anyone else had this kind of "current status"? Any ideas on what it could mean?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply.... sorry, I've not figured out how to update my time-line.

I filed my I-485 in late June

Got an RFE sometime in July (typo in form)

Got an expedited AP and my EAD in mid-August

I-485 form reprocessed in late August - sent to CSC

Changed my address about 1 month ago (still in the same state - MA) - I did BOTH address change forms!!!!

Got this odd "current status" thing a few days ago

What worries me is that is also says in the same e-mail:

On October 24, 2008, your document I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS was processed and mailed to the address on record.

Are they sending me the forms back?!!!!! Could it mean I got rejected?

I am not a K-1 case, and since yours was transferred to the CSC, yours likely will be approved without an interview. So... don't think about the worst case scenario yet. I read on this forum that many people get their approvals without the e-mail notification or touches. Especially you got you AP already, and no more RFEs. They will send you another RFE before denying your case. I don't think this means rejection...

Might they have sent you a form acknowledging the address change? That is a guess, but it does sound like a catch-all update message for anything that might not be sent to everyone.

Thank you for the reply and the reassurance. I, like most VJers, get concerned when processing doesn't go the normal route. Hopefully it's good news... but it's really annoying when they send these ambiguous e-mails!

If anyone else has any insights, I'd certainly appreciate hearing them.

Thanks!

I can tell you that they do send out a letter acknowledging the change of address (at least they sometimes do - can only speak from my experience!).

But when I got mine, my online status stayed the same, only the date last updated changed.

Not sure that helps. Although my files have rarely shown any updates (one didn't even show up online until I changed the address).

Hi again,

Thanks for all the replies. It seems odd that it's an address change mix-up as I got confirmation of my new address from USCIS 3 weeks ago!

Then again - stranger things have happened!!!

It's probably not. That was a guess, but from what cdn in wa said, probably not it. I don't think it's a denial or RFE, though, because if it were, it would say so.

Yeah, I didn't think it was an address update, because I only got the letters, not the online update. But I put it out there for anyone wondering if you do get notification of your address being changed.

:)

Thanks for all the responses.... just got the "document" through today.

In my case the updated status - DOCUMENT OTHER THAN CARD OR TRAVEL DOCUMENT MAILED TO APPLICANT - meant that some mail USCIS sent me got returned to sender (even though I told them my new mailing address last month!), and that they re-mailed the document to the new address. Fortunately the original document wasn't too important.
