Hello all,

I know it's a long way for me since I just started the K1 journey, but I was wondering what are the reasons for filing for AP? Is it just to be able to go home while waiting for the green card or does it also allow us to travel to other countries?

thanks

I think K-1 is a single entry visa correct? So you cannot use it to re-enter the country.

An AP allows you to re-enter the US if you travel abroad while waiting for your GC. It could be home or any other international travel.

Great Thank you! Now I know I'll definitely apply

we filed our AOS this month and only for the 485, we did not bother to do the AP or the EAD as we have no plans to travel (cant afford it after all these fees we have to pay LOL) and the red tape about getting a SSN without a GC. so we figured the main thing is to get the GC then there wont be any need for the other 2 since the GC allows you to travel in and out of the country as well as work. to us it just seems additional paperwork that could hold up the processing of the 485

They are adjudicated separately so your theory is flawed... and in actuality the I-131 has no effect on the I-485... it is or can only be the other way around where a delay in the I-485 (RFE) will cause a delay in the AP...

Yeah I don't think we will do much traveling either, but since I will be only 4hours away from home, I might want to go for a weekend! As for the EAD, that is a no brainer since I want to be able to work as early as possible to start saving for a house and the "real" wedding! LOL

I suggested you guys applying for EAD too. Because EAD is processed quicker than I 485, and for some states, like mine CT, when your I-94 expired, you even need a anther official docs from USA like EAD to get drive licence. And EAD will be the another official proof that you can live in USA.

It is just my opinion.

And you pay $1010 for the fee I 485, when your I 485 is under the process, you can continue applying for EAD and AP without paying other penny. After I 94 expired, you will have no other proof for your legal status. But EAD can help you on this, also on drive licence depends on different STATES.

hi there if that's the case... Can you travel after out of the US after the GC? even without the AP?

AP is an interim benefit to allow re-entry between AOS application and greencard... When you get your greencard the AP is null and void ,as your greencard is your now re-entry document

Best to get AP. Yeah you aren't planning on traveling? Well your relatives back home aren't planning on getting sick or having a serious accident either. Sh!t happens and it's not easy to get an emergency AP.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

!! ALL PAU!
