Question to you all that already have received their NOA2 and maybe their packet 3! We received NOA2 March 19th and dhl tracking says that our paperwork was already dropped off at the embassy here in Frankfurt Germany! I haven´t received packet 3 yet but i already have filled out all the needed forms! I am going on a trip to the states on saturday for about 3 weeks, bought that ticket back in January! So my question is should I have my mom to send in the forms to the embassy when I will get packet 3 in the mail and just send out the checklist that I have all my stuff ready for the interview when I return back from my trip or should i just wait with all my forms and checklist till I return?

Any advice is very appreciated! :-)

Hello together-forever. You need to check with your embassy about that. I think everywhere is different. Here i don't even have to send out packet 3. whenever i am ready with the documents i just call them to make an appointment for the interview. (before the medical). I think it would take at least a month to schedule an interview date so i would say that it shouldn't be a problem if someone else send packet 3 so you can get the paperwork going on but hey this is just an opinion.

Good luck and have fun with your fiancee.

Just to update:

On March 20, my fiance received a letter from NVC saying that our package 3 will be forwarded to the US ambassy here in Taiwan. That is a week after the NOA2. I got the actual package 3 on March 31, 18 days after the approval notice arrived. We are almost done with the required documents. I am thinking to schedule the interview in the end of this month and be reunited with my fiance in New York by the end of May. I hope that those who are still waiting stay encouraged and make the most use of the time before your NOA2 comes to gather the necessary paper for or at least get familiar with the next phase in the process. Good luck, everyone!!!

I know alot of you guys are busy with the paperwork but hows everyone's wedding plans going??...we originally hired an attorney Dec 07 for the K1 who stuffed us around and we were planning to get married last year September 27th...then we ended up filing ourselves in July last year which USCIS had lost our petition so we had to refile again in November!!! ....we then had our big wedding set for April 25th 2010 but then I ended up getting pregnant then our whole plans had changed all together ...so now, we just figured that we'd have a civil wedding and then have a main wedding when we're both financially settled. It wouldve been alot easier if we both werent coming from huge close knit families on opposite sides of the earth!

I was thinking of doing the civil wedding but not changing my surname until our big wedding....Im wondering if this will be ok and wont affect the AOS or anything??

Hmmmm....well no one can argue that you have the right to keep whattever name you want to, but i guess your 2 year greencard will not be a relection of your actual name once you do decide to change it.

That is the only problem I can think of. They wont deny you based on this, but you will probably have to have the name changed, and im not sure whether this would incur additional costs / and or time to you at a later date.

That sounds wonderful! I originally wanted to have the reception on the beach but hotel rooms were so expensive! We're planning on getting married at a church and then reception at Safety Harbor Resort and Spa (it is on Tampa Bay and there is still a bit of beach in the back so it should be nice)! I am so stressed about this whole process. Starting to think I may be moving to the UK because I'm not sure everything will be done before our wedding. Nick and I will be talking about our Plan B this weekend...

If you find the dress you love you should get it! When I tried on the dress I got, I knew it was the one! The problem is that I've dropped over 2 sizes since starting this process and now my dress is too big so I'll probably be paying a ton for alterations! I was told to wait until closer to the wedding before having it altered since stress is getting no better!

Hi all! The November group is so quiet now, I guess everyone is busy gathering packet 3 docs, and getting sized for tuxedos and wedding gowns. :P

I finally got my NOA2 letter in the mail yesterday, I was getting worried that it was not coming, since I got the approval email a week ago.

I called NVC this morning and they said everything has already been forwarded on to Hong Kong, so that is great news. I have my employer's letter, letter from my bank, last 3 years 1040's, pay stubs, NOA1 and NOA2 all together ready to send over to Dora in Macau to prepare her for the interview.

The last thing for me to get a clear answer on is what does the Hong Kong Consulate want; I-864 or I-134. Everything on VJ and the WWW says that I-864 is for "immigrant visa apps" so it is not used for K1 visa applications, since they are non-immigrant, and that the I-134 should be used for non-immigrant visa such as the K1.

BUT! The Hong Kong Consulate website specifically states to file the I-864 for the fiancé to bring to the interview date:

http://hongkong.usconsulate.gov/iv_checklist.html

Applying for an Immigrant Visa

Document Checklist for Immigrant & K & V Visa Applicants

Please bring all applicable documents (originals plus copies if noted) on this checklist. Visas are often approved the same day for applicants who are prepared with these documents. Visas will not be approved until applicants submit all required documents.

6. Immigrant visa applicants require an Affidavit of Support (Form I-864) with sponsors' federal income tax return that was current when the I-864 was signed if the affidavit of support has not been submitted to the National Visa Center. K & V visa applicants should provide proof of self-supporting in the U.S. or a job offer for you or a letter from the petitioner's employer. Form I 134 (not Form I-864) executed by the petitioner and his/her federal income tax returns for the most recent tax year may be required when the consular officer deems useful.

The Hong Kong Consulate website lists the K-1 Fiancé visa under the section for immigrant visa, and the 18 item checklist on what to bring to the interview begins with "immigrant visa" and later lists "K&V visas" in the body of the item, stating to use the I-864 for the K1, and also that form I-134 "may be required when the consular officer deems useful". That is confusing! I guess the only safe thing is to just do both the I-864 and the I-134, just to be safe.

Also, one other question about fees. The same 18 item checklist says this about the fee needed to apply for the visa:

For family-sponsored or employment-based applicants, the immigrant visa fee of US$400 (HK$3,200) for each applicant is required if the fee has not already been paid to the National Visa Center. The fee for Diversity Visa applicants is US$775 (HK$6,200). K & V visa applicants need payment receipt from the Dah Sing Bank Ltd.

This does not apply to the K1 does it? We paid our fee when we applied with our I-129, right?

Doing this part feels more stressful since I can not talk to Dora face to face about the docs and forms, so I want to make sure I send everything over to her so that the day she goes in to interview is as stress free as possible. I just wish I could be in Hong Kong to give her support at the interview, I would be stressed to go there alone!!

The last thing for me to get a clear answer on is what does the Hong Kong Consulate want; I-864 or I-134.

Have you posted this question under the correct Regional Discussion subforum? I think you'd have more chance at the correct answer there.

Yes, I later re-posted the same post over there. Seems the only sure way to know is to what and see what is in the packet 3.
