After reading some posts on CR1 & K3, I need some clarification.

You can travel out of the country with a CR1 visa but not with a K3 visa?

So a spouse coming to America on a K3 has to wait for the Greencard to travel abroad (such as going back home, etc ...?)

The Journey through AOS:

May 05, 2010 - mailed I-485

May 11, 2010 - text message stating application received

May 13, 2010 - NOA1 for AOS

May 17, 2010 - Biometrics letter rec'd

June 10, 2010 - Biometrics appt

August 03, 2010 - AOS @10:45 am - "conditional" approval pending corrected medical form by Civil Surgeon

Sept 8, 2010 - AOS Approved for 10 year Greencard!!!

nope you do not have it correct... a K-3 is a multi entry visa and can travel freely during its validity period (typically up to two years from issuance)

Even though K3 holders are able to fly back into the US if they leave before AOS if filed or approved, they are not authorized to legally work or get any legal documents such a driver's permit or driver's license.

10/01/09 - Received 10 year green card

U.S. Citizenship

03/30/11 - N-400 sent via Priority Mail w/ delivery confirmation

05/12/11 - Biometrics

07/20/11 - Interview - passed

07/20/11 - Oath ceremony - same day as interview

Diana,

Most states will issue a DL if you can provide an I-94 with a validity period of 1 year or more... A K-3 could have this....

WHEW ~ its a relief to know we would be able to travel freely.

Does the beneficiary have to wait for the AOS to be filed or for it to be approved before they're able to travel abroad?
