San Francisco would become the first major U.S. city to decriminalize prostitution if voters next month approve Proposition K—a measure that forbids local authorities from investigating, arresting or prosecuting anyone for selling sex.

The ballot question technically would not legalize prostitution since state law still prohibits it, but the measure would eliminate the power of local law enforcement officials to go after prostitutes.

...

Some form of prostitution is already legal in two states. Brothels are allowed in rural counties in Nevada. And Rhode Island permits the sale of sex behind closed doors between consulting adults, but it prohibits street prostitution and brothels.

ETA: The second option should be No - I do not support the decriminalization of prostitution. Doh!

Good. And this would certainly aid in bringing sex workers out of the shadows, and diminish the abuse they suffer in the hands of pimps and joes.

I have a tough time thinking of them as being "in the shadows". They're in the newspaper, on Craigslist, in the phone book....

How about they use European cities as models for this--decriminalise it within a defined red-light district?

My friend works for the city of Calgary Canada and part of her job is to issue licenses to prostitutes. That always boggles my mind.

If it saved them from getting hurt and put some sort of safe sex practices into place, I suppose I have no issues with it.

D1ckhead. You know what I mean. :P

I am thinking about the street sex worker - not about the high priced escorts.

Exactly sister --- like Dean says, you are of right thinking.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Interesting. I agree with you on that. Keep them off the streets...or at least certain streets.
