I could not give input for LAX.

I could only share my experience with Phoenix as for my final destination not as POE.

Phoenix is a small airport, compare with San francisco and Chicago o'hare.

After immigration, you could meet your husband immediately. He could help you with pick-up of your luggage.

No questions asked during immigration... maybe because it was my final destination and not my POE.

(apply corrections of K&O)

Eh, in effect whichsoever airport OP lands at IS the final destination--as her plan is to drive home (in Phoenix) from the POE airport.

I beg to disagree... It was my actual experience... I would say this is strange... I have travelled to several countries and i would say that it is only in Phoenix that i was able to meet my officemate before i got my luggage. By the way, my officemate was only there to fetch me.

Im quoting my own experience... sso its the truth. :innocent:

After immigration, you could meet your husband immediately. He could help you with pick-up of your luggage. Correction - international travelers remain inside the secured area (passengers only) until they've cleared CBP AND have retrieved their luggage - you come out pushing a cart with your luggage.

 for approximately 95% of international flights headed to PHX or LAX.

The other 5% of international traffic to these airports comes from Canada (and of this 98% will come from YVR, YYC, YUL and YYZ--in no particular order) where CBP is done pre-boarding @ PFI.
