I have only ever had a lay over at Pheonix, so I don't know how it is as a POE.

While LAX is ugly old airport, looks can be deceiving. My wife entered through there about ten days ago and already (yesterday) has received her green card and she got her SSN last week, which implies that the DS-230 forms are processed promptly.

My guess is that the major hubs like LAX are well set up for immigrants because they have an enormous throughput. The officers at smaller airports might be equally friendly, but less experienced with immigrants. I saw a post the other day where a CR visa holder was advised to file for adjustment of status on entry!!!

Believe it or not, PHX is probably as large an airport as LAX - however, as a POE it is much less traffic compared to LAX. If it were me - and Phoenix were my final destination - I'd simply fly in to Phoenix rather than spend 5+ hours driving there from LA (and it's not an exciting drive either). You'll spend less time with CBP and you'll already be 'home' when you walk out the door.

Claudeth had a very pleasent experience with LAX. It only took her about 45 minutes from deboarding the plane until she came out of the customs area and the officer that interviewed her was very kind, pleasent and helpful.

Goood luck

I could not give input for LAX.

I could only share my experience with Phoenix as for my final destination not as POE.

Phoenix is a small airport, compare with San francisco and Chicago o'hare.

After immigration, you could meet your husband immediately. He could help you with pick-up of your luggage.

No questions asked during immigration... maybe because it was my final destination and not my POE.

If cost is not an issue, Phoenix. If cost is issue and flight to LAX is cheaper, then LAX.

(my basic principle: if you can get to your final destination and clear customs there, do so)

My POE was LAX and it was easy, just few basic questions. The waiting in line even took longer than the processing with the immigration officer.

After immigration, you could meet your husband immediately. He could help you with pick-up of your luggage. Correction - international travelers remain inside the secured area (passengers only) until they've cleared CBP AND have retrieved their luggage - you come out pushing a cart with your luggage.
