You need to check with your state's DMV office because every state is different. I think, don't quote me on this, but I think that in Florida you do not have to have an EAD or green card to get a driver's license. If that is the case, then you're in luck and all she will need to do is take her exams to get it. If not, then you'll have to wait until she gets her EAD or green card to get it.

I'm in Florida, and had to wait for EAD before I could get a licence. I'm from the UK and have a licence from there, so I just had to do the computer tests and driving test and then got a full licence. It was weird though, as after I did the computer tests but before the driving test, they said I could get a regular learners permit and drive with another driver, or else just drive alone on my UK licence. I chose to stick with the UK licence (although I thought you could only use the foreign licence for your first 90(ish) days in the US, but since the examiner told me I could, I did it).

Removing conditions:

10/9/10 - Package sent to Vermont

10/13/10 - NOA1 date, received 10/18

I am in Florida and I am from the UK. I drove on my UK licence for 30 days (which is all you are legally allowed if you not considered a visitor - if you live here, 30 days is all you have). Before my UK licence validity expired I made an appointment at DMV and took the written test. You can take this twice a day and as many times as you need until you pass it. It costs either $5 or $10 to repeat the test, but the first one is free.

Once you pass this you can take the driving test - which is ridiculously easy. I stressed myself out worrying about it, but it lasted about 5 minutes and I passed without any problem at all.

The licence they gave me cost $20, and was valid until the end of my I94 (so technically I had a 2 month licence) as soon as I got married and got my NOA1 for AOS, I took it into the DMV and they renewed my licence for a year. If you're changing your name as a result of the marriage, don't forget to take in your marriage certificate too, and they will do the name change at the same time. Each time you get a new licence, they charge you $20 so it's better to do both at the same time.

The licence I have now is valid until October 2009. Once Ihave my green card, i'll go and renew it again.....

I hope this helps
