Well maybe we all need to help the police more. Maybe we should all watch our neighbors, and go through their garbage, and read their shredded mail, so we can make this a safer country.

The police do have the right to search and question a car load of gang bangers if they have Probable Cause...but not by profiling.

So should the police have the right to search and question a car load of White upper-middle class teenagers driving around at 1:00pm in an area known for having all imaginable drugs readily available for sale (aka Suburbs)?

Or how about people in an area known for having people who teach Darwanism, or Scientology, or Intelligent Design?

What about people in an area known for thinking radical thoughts, or just an area known for people that want to criticize the government?

Personally, I don't want to live in a police state. I prefer the ideal of due process, and protection from warrant-less search and seizure.

If you think you'd be safer living in a police state, feel free to have at it. That's another freedom you have in America,

the freedom to get the ** out.

That is just paranoia though. That the government is out to get you guys. Time to travel to other first world nations and realize that the government is, in those nations, there to help people. Want to know the difference.. They elect people who actually know what they are doing. They certainly don't go electing criminals like their brother Marion Barry in again.

No actually I saw and read all of your points but didn't want to get into a table tennis match. The day white upper class Americans are committing the majority of crimes in an area then the police should very well target them. This is not racist. This is called proactive law enforcement. You don't go targeting grand ma just to be PC. Stop committing the crimes and you will not be targeted. How many Japanese Americans are profiled, vertually none. Why? because the don't go around gang banging..

Same with immigration. Americans are too busy trying to be PC correct. Whereas most developed countries abroad will consider a risk factor based on the applicants country of origin. And process applications accordingly. First world countries get prioritized as they are less likely to be fraudulent.

The issue I have with this is that crime is rampant in this country.

Always has been, always will be. You have to entirely change America's outlook on killing each other and extreme divisiveness to cure this. And banning video games and movies would only increase it. So that's not a solution for this country.

So many areas are simply no go zones, especially at night. While this is acceptable in Sudan or certain cities in South America, this should not be acceptable in 2008 United States. The police need the power to do their job. Nothing more nothing less. Applying principals and laws enacted in a totally different era is just silly and has led to the status quo here. The police, for example, should have the right to search and question a car load of kids driving around at 2:00am in an area know for violence and murders.

Since this isn't Sudan or Brazil or Venezuela, I will point out that you know nothing. Why? Because, mostly, cars CAN be searched without a warrant, as long as there is a just cause for suspicion. Here, the cops make up reasons to pull people over at 2 and 3am. I was with my sister at 2am coming home from a party, a few years ago, and we were pulled over because the cop said the lights on her rear plates were out making it difficult to read them. After he pulled her over and left, with him sitting behind us, I walked to the back of the car to look, myself, and sure enough they were working fine, so I raised my hands at him like "#######?" and he shrugged his shoulders.

The cops have enough authority as it is. They don't need the authority to be bullies.

If you took most crime ridden American cities and dropped them in a country like Aus, the crime would go down and the offenders would be swiftly dealt with. Why? because the laws are dynamic. Adjusted to suit the crime and world we live in.

Great posts, HAL. More people need to call it how they see it, and spotting racism, even closet racism, is pretty easy. It's clear his approach to other races is not in any way meant to help them, but tear them down. It's also clear most of his rants have nothing to do with the U.S. so should readily be discredited.

The one thing that is clear is that you guys, average American, have a big problem with accepting reality. With accepting that there are other countries who not only do things better than you guys but beat you on all fronts. Your arrogance and stubbornness will be the end of this country. You are already the butt of jokes abroad. Twenty Four percent of Americans who travel abroad now report being assaulted.

So when I see people post about how little I apparently know and how little I know about what works and what does not, yes I do laugh. Last time I checked Australia kicks the United States ### on pretty much every front. So by default, dam straight that gives me a right to speak. Much more than you guys, that is for sure...

Oh wait you have the first amendment and the Constitution. After living here, I can see why the rest of the world hates it when America tries to impose what you consider democracy on others. Thanks but no thanks. We are not interested in your rights and certainly not the state of this country.
