Applying for Europe Visa - Greencard Expired

I'm hoping someone else has been in this position before...

My greencard expired and I'm waiting on the 10-yr card to arrive (probably end of Nov/early Dec). I'm planning on going to U.K. and France at the end of November for 11 days total and I need to get a visa for both countries. so my problem is this...

UK - I need to mail them my original passport, expired greencard and 1yr extension letter. I'm concerned that if they lose this, i'll be screwed and I won't be able to travel.....any experiences with this?

France - I need to show a USA residency card (Green Card) or I-551 stamp. Has anyone tried to get a visa by showing the 1 yr extension letter?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Send them a PHOTO copy of GC and Extension letter, NOT the originals. Same for France.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

I would recommend applying in person at the Consulates, if possible. I applied for both those visas last year and it was pretty easy to do in person (and my green card never left my possession).

Timeline for Naturalization:

Day 1: Application delivered to AZ

Timeline for Removing Conditions:

Green card received 117 days after application was delivered to USCIS

Timeline for AOS:

Green card received 120 days after application was delivered to USCIS

I can do the France one in person but for U.K., I have no choice but to mail it in :angry:

Btw, what stupid country requires FINGERPRINTING for a visa - Darn Brits!!

Have you tried to send them photocopies to the British Consulate successfully?

Copy of your green card plus extension letter is all you need on the French side.

I had to renew some french paperwork and they accepted the NOA as a proof of legal status in the US. :) I highly doubt they would change the standards for you.

Oh and like others said , do not send that green card in the mail, copy only!

Removal of Conditions on 07-19-10

In this tedious process, we tend to forget that this is all worth it.

I love my hubby beyond anything in this world.

A quick update for anyone that has an expired GC and is applying for a UK visa - you have to send ORIGINALS of all documents requested, including the actual GC, passport and NOA1 letter.

I sent my originals via certified next day delivery (i was extremely nervous) and they sent me back my visa, passport, GC, and NOA1 back via UPS in 8 days. Sending copies instead of originals will result in non-approvals of the visa.
