hi all!

People who recently filed I-130, plesae reply to this question! Did you send the copy of the birth certificate and SSN along with your petition. I am asking this because the new instructions for I-130 are not saying anything about birth certificate. And if you sent the birth certificate, did you send both yours and your spouse or just for your spouse. Please Reply!!! Thank you all!!

Copy of SSN not needed.

Copy of US Citizen's US birth Cert is needed if using it to establish being a US citizen by birth to be eligible to apply for a spousal visa under the UN-Limited Visa class.

US citizen can also use a full copy of US passport, or Naturalization Cert to establish US citizenship.

For purposes of determing the petitioner's citizenship:

From the instructions:

What Documents Do You Need to Show That You Are a U.S. Citizen?

1. If you were born in the United States, a copy of your birth certificate, issued by a civil registrar, vital statistics office, or other civil authority.

2. A copy of your naturalization certificate or certificate of citizenship issued by USCIS or the former INS.

3. A copy of Form FS-240, Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States, issued by a U.S. Embassy or consulate.

4. A copy of your unexpired U.S. passport; or

5. An original statement from a U.S. consular officer verifying that you are a U.S. citizen with a valid passport.

YMMV

Hello,

I did send copies of both my wife and mine BC, plus I sent copies of passport to. I think the more the information the better, but this is what I did. I ask customer service at USCIS and she said more information will never hurt a case only help. Is this ok, or just opening myself up to trouble?

I sent copies of my BC as a US citizen. I sent copies of both passports. And your right making sure you have all the correct information neatly together seems to move the process along alot faster. I have been very careful to send everything exactly how they want it. I have checked and re-checked to make sure by coming here, using their website and talking to them on phone. So far ...so good. Good luck!!
