what if i cant get a letter from my doctor in time?

ok i'm a little worried, as on the questionaire it says if you tick yes to any of these please proved more information.

i've booked my medical for thursday the 6th november

and i've been in the process of trying to get vaccinations, vaccination records and a letter from my doctor about past depression for over a week now.

it culminated in my handing in a letter to the surgery, about what i needed last monday cos they wouldnt let me book an appointment the friday before that i had no responce after two days went in and got a load of rubbish excuses and left after being told the letter hadnt been read yet and was in the nurses inbox and give it two days. i still have not had a reply or contact from them about it. i gave up expecting any vaccinations from them before the medical as the earliest they could do it was the 6th which is my medical and i ended up getting my vaccination reccords from child health as my surgery didnt have my full records. i'm going in tomorrow to demand the letter again but what happens if i cant have it in time? they have made it so difficult to get anything done and i'm concerned they will do it again tomorrow.

this is really worrying me now.

thanks hannah

Just between you and me, I would never tick off that I had any kind of depression.

I love Damian's post about being a casual drug user...different subject drugs/depression...but similar because it's about the medical questionnaire.

I don't even know if they question you about all the things you tick. If they go down the list, just be fast and robotic...

Heart disease? Nope

Pregant? Nope

Cancer? Nope

Hepatitis? Nope

Depression? Nope

Constipation? Nope

I made those up, but you get the idea. Practice..LOL Nick said they just chat with you about general stuff to get your over-all demeanor and determine if you're mentally stable. You think they're just being friendly and interested in where you're going to live or the weather or your job, but really they are sizing you up to see if you are normal mentally. Relax dear.

If you are lacking anything at the medical, they will give you their fax number to have your doctor fax to them. Once they receive the info, they finish the medical and send it on to the Embassy.

I still vote don't tell them, unless of course you have physical scars from cutting your writsts or something.

Don’t forget that getting your K1 is not end of your immigration journey, in fact it's barely begun; you will have to go through AOS, Removing Conditions and Citizenship (should you want to) as well. If you lie now it could come to light at any of these stages and the consequences would be just as dire.

Do you really want to go through the next three years or so wondering if it will ever come out that you lied at your medical?

The decision is yours but my advice would be to tell the complete truth, even if that means changing the date of your medical. At least that way you can carry on through the immigration process for the next few years without any nagging worries at the back of your mind. Believe me, the process doesn't get any easier - getting the K1 is the easy bit!

Hanna, I answered 'no' to the depression question and I was prescribed antidepressants after the sudden death of a sibling....doctors are asses sometimes when it comes to antidepressants and throw them at you when they don't know how to deal with something....if you don't have a history of "depression" i personally wouldn't tick the question as yes but as English Muffin has pointed out it has to be something you are completely comfortable in doing.

You could explain to them the reason for the prescription and say exactly what you said here....that looking back it was a moment of sadness and not depression, and they may not even be concerned with taking it further.

And let's not forget that we never recommend lying to USCIS. ;)

true i may just badger the surgery untill i get a letter from my gp about it. then leave that box unticked and say i wasnt truly sure of the best answer because i didnt count myself as having proper depression.

i'm just nervous about my medical not being approved in time if i cant have offical notes to back it up. If I have not heard anything by tomorrow i think i'm gunna have to phone and ask to speak to the doctor directly. just makes me angry that these receptionists wont let me complete a simple thing.

I would never lie to the uscis, and havent either  just wount count what happened as proper clinical depression but then i'm not a doctor, so my opinion counts for squat ;)

Why don't you re-schedule your medical for a later time so that you can get what you need from your doctor in time for it? If you don't have an interview date yet there's no rush to get it done.

Well good luck anyway and I hope they get their act together soon...also, I needed a letter from my doctor before I married my husband (USAF insisted on a full medical and blood testing) stating that I was in good mental health...she charged me 50 pounds for the pleasure!

If i delay my medical for my doctors surgery i will prob have to say bye bye to the visa. I've made around four attempts to get my vaccinations over the few months since filing, and have given up on the vaccinations being done with them. i had to get my records from child health cos the doctors were missing majority of mine because they were done at the school. and i know i'm not the only one who has trouble with those receptionists. i will juist have to find a way of by passing them.
