I just got a letter for an interview. I got here with K1.

Do I have to bring MY birth certificate? or just my husband's birth certificate? He is USC and has a passport. His passport is not accepted?

We rent a house with my mother in law. Actually the renter is my husband's uncle, and my mother in law, my husband and I live there. My husband pays rent to his mom. We still have copies of checks for the rent. But, it is not my name. It is my husband's name. Is it ok?

I have a shared bank document, insurance card which shows that I am under his plan, shared credit cards, and marriage certificate. I can print out some bills that mail to me.

Is it enough?

The thing is that I do not have a ring yet. I have a severe metal allergy and it will be so much money for him to buy a pure silver or gold ring. So he is saving enough money right now to buy in the future.

Please share your experience.

You should be fine with what you have.

Bring the origionals of every thing you sent in the I-485 package to the interview.

You will be fine. Looks like you have the vital documents they want to see. When I went to our interview recently, I was only asked for a joint bank account with my husband, credit card statements, and photos and we got approved. We volunteered to give more documents but the interviewer said she did not need them. However, every interviewer differs. Just bring whatever proofs you can gather & be ready to explain if you are asked documents that you cannot present. I brought my birth certificate with me too (both original & photo copy) and all my husband's documentation regarding his US citizenship but they were not asked. The interviewing officer asked for my passport & my husband's though so remember to take it with you. Good luck!

Like the others said, you will be fine. Definitely take both your's and your husband's birth certificates and passports. At my interview, I only had an engagement ring, because we are saving up for wedding rings and will exchange them at our second wedding ceremony in my home country at Christmas. It didn't even come up though, and I'm sure it won't be a problem for you - just explain about your allergy if asked, that is a perfectly reasonable explanation. My wife just had an interview last week I believe same office as yours. 34 Civic Center in Santa Ana. We were approved without complication. Remember to bring with you your wedding pictures, and an interpreter if your wife does not speak English although the letter stated you can be one, but in my case with officer Marcel he asked some stranger sitting in a waiting room to help us out. We were so lucky that day that we had a Vietnamese English speaker in the waiting room that was willing to help us.

In most spouse case, an officer will not allow the spouse to be an interpreter. We arrived at 9:45 AM and was out of there by 10:20 AM.

What the interviewing officer did in our case was compare the copies of documents we sent in the petitions we filed with the originals. So - since I sent them a copy of my birth certificate, and my wife's birth certificate/translation, we had the originals at the interview and the officer just glanced through them, compared what he had to what we had, and returned them. Same with passports, we brought both of our passports in mainly because I had mailed copies of them at one time or another. Same with marriage cert/translation.

Other than that, you want as much "joint" stuff as you can get. The IO was pretty understanding about big things (vehicles) that I had before my wife arrived. If the lease was set up before you got here I believe the IO will treat it just like a vehicle, but he/she will probably suggest a joint lease to you. The IO went through joint bank statements, auto/health insurance, cell phone accounts, lease, and credit cards and kept copies of all of those as evidence. The only other thing the IO concentrated on was our photo albums, he flipped through them and asked a couple (simple) questions about each other's family - probably just checking to see how well we knew each other. You should be fine and good luck.

just as a little addition, I would include a statement from the mother in law indicating that she is the landlord and you both reside there and the reason that you dont have a lease agreement is because he is her son.
