Indianapolis Star: We think Obama sucks, but we can't endorse McCain!

Democrat Barack Obama is eloquent and charismatic. He has enthralled millions of new potential voters and brought hope to many Americans who for far too long have felt excluded from full participation in the democratic process, particularly African-Americans and young people. He promises a sharp break from past policies at a time when much of the public longs for a change in the nation's direction. Obama also offers the potential to shape an administration with an inclusive and collaborative style of leadership, a quality lacking in Washington for far too long.

If elected, however, he also would be the most inexperienced president in modern American history.

...

Obama's tax proposals also are cause for concern ... Obama's liberal stand on social issues also clashes with the Editorial Board's longstanding positions on such matters.

Republican John McCain has a long and distinguished record of service to the nation ... He has been a strong, bipartisan leader in the Senate, pushing, among other issues, for reforms in the campaign finance system and pork barrel spending.

McCain, however, has delivered a muddled message on how to confront the economic challenges facing the nation. He also is unlikely to provide a sharp enough break from the Bush administration's policies on the economy and foreign relations. His running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin, also has limited experience, raising concerns about her readiness to lead the nation if needed.

Editorial Board .... members take the responsibility to offer political endorsements seriously, weighing candidates' strengths and weaknesses and balancing those judgments with the opinion page's long history of support for traditional values and opposition to intrusive government programs.

After lengthy and impassioned discussions, the Editorial Board remains evenly divided, along philosophical lines, over whether McCain or Obama is the better choice for president. For that reason, the board will withhold an endorsement in the presidential race this year.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

JFK - Elected Public Servant from 1947 - 1960 (13 years)

Obama - Elected Public Servant from 1997 - 2008 (11 years)

Bush - Going into his second term (5 years)

Lincoln - Criticized for only having only served 1 year in the US House prior to becoming President.

Of course, I'm not a newspaper editorial board...my facts may be wrong.

Sucks when there really isn't anyone to vote for that really inspires confidence, doesn't it...

I'm not looking for a debate, just expressing my humble opinion!

The last election wasn't much different, except I was sure who would not get my vote. This is a big country, and this is the best we can do for canditates?

The Indy Star is one of the most right-leaning rags I've ever seen. Every Samhain and Yule and I send them letters to the editor giving a brief description of the holiday's origins. One year I sent a letter explaining why Jesus ISN'T the Reason for the Season. (Yes, they were all very polite and profanity-free). None of them were ever printed. So I sent things to Let it Out, which is less strictly censored. Nope, couldn't get printed in there, either. Some moron who could barely string together four (misspelled) words was able to get his diatribe against all non-Xians printed, though.

IndyStar = Chopf##ks.

(I used to own indystar.net where I had a spoof version of the paper's website. I should have kept it. lol)

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I know I turn you on, but do you REALLY think it's appropriate to ####### all over VJ?

This endorsement thing has me baffled too. I don't recall there being anything similar in the UK. Do these people get a reward for endorsing their favourite candidate?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Well, as it turned out that a typical Indy Star reader is another ignorant fool. Using disinformation to uneducate the educated.

Where is the author of the paper perceive that experience counts in office? As a matter of fact as the poster who replied with H-A-R-D-C-O-R-E example of explicit individuals who have even less of an experience that ran the office.

It's these media that is killing people's common sense, and lowering them to a level that let fiction play in the role of decision making. Therefore, any useful or productive thought process is removed by eliminating the facts altogether. This is creating angst inside me that seem to grow up to a boiling point of madness. It's very sad that people cannot distinguish facts and fiction, and let the media control everything!
