They are used just like a visa to get back into the USA, not leave.

Carry the AP doc, your passport, and photo copy of marriage cert (If name on AP does not match Passport).

Book any flight tickets using passport name.

Some carry an extra photo copy of AP doc for the POE officer to keep.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

The first time you use the AP, you need both original copies you received from USCIS with you. On your re-entry to the US, the IO will keep one and return the other to you. If you leave the US again, on reentry, the IO will take the original from you, enter all the data again, and then return it to you.

It is advisable to have a copy of the original in a safe place (not the same place as the original) in case something should happen to your original.

I've used mine several times (going to Canada) and each time, they stamp on the AP document my entry, staple a new I-94 in passport and stamp my passport.

You need the AP only for entering the USA, not leaving.

You surrender the I-94 when you leave.
