"Our Wedding Prayer"

Lord, help us to remember when we first met,and the strong love that grew between us.

To work the love into practical things so nothing can divide us

Grant us a Love that grows stronger with each passing year.

We ask for words both kind and loving

and for hearts always ready to ask forgiveness as well as to forgive.

Guide us to overcome every challenge

and keep our dreams pure to each other always.

Dear Lord,we put our marriage into Your hands.Amen

If your heart acquires strength, you will be able to remove blemishes from others without thinking evil of them.

I speak English (native), Italian (fluent) and currently learning Albanian. I can understand basic Albanian, but it's definitely still a work in progress. After we take a trip there next summer, I am certain that I will be at a pretty strong conversational level.

I actually study and do research in the field of psycholinguistics (psychology of language), so I can attest to the cognitive benefits of being multilingual.

I have never heard that multilinguals process faster, but there are certainly things that they have been shown to be more efficient at.

1. Children that are raised bilingual tend to be more open minded (with respect to culture, among other things), because knowing more than one language often allows for the understanding of more than one perspective on things.

2. They have also been shown to have a better understanding of the structure of their own first language.

3. They understand that words are arbitrary, whereas monolingual children have trouble imagining that a dog, for example, could just as easily have a different name. In other words, they better understand that the word 'dog' does not actually represent the qualities of a dog in any way.

4. It has also been found that children who are raised to be bilingual are more efficient at ignoring information that is irrelevant to the completion of a task.

5. There is evidence that supports the notion that learning a second language helps keep neural connections in the brain strong, and can eventually reduce the risk of dementia (memory loss) in old age.

There are other things that I can't think of right now, but I love my area of research! =]

I am native level in two languages, intermediate in two languages, and high intermediate level in one language and two dialects.

Aside from my native fluency in the two languages, I am better at the written form of the other languages (and dialects) than their oral and aural form because I don't get to practice them on a daily basis.

I find it funny that sometimes I count in one language, or describe the color of something in another.

I really want to take up another language after I arrive in the US, whilst I wait for my EAD. What do you think would be most beneficial, French, Spanish or German? I know I little German so I might be able to learn that quicker.

Spanish might be the most useful in the US (but not only there) - plus it's a beautiful language.
