I wouldn't even benefit the dog owner by calling it a "breeder", if they're in such a hurry to get rid of puppies that early, they're more likely a puppy mill, and they want to get rid of the litter so they can get the dam mated again for another litter in time for Christmas. "Breeders" like that should IMO, be lined up along a concrete wall Valentine's Day style :P

We figure that's where our George came from. We acquired her through one of my husbands employees who bought her for a friend, who then decided they couldn't afford her, so she asked James if he could take her. We got her home late (like after midnight) and she vomited and had really bad bloody diarhea and we rushed her to the Animal ER. She ended up in there for 2 days on IV and anti-virals because the "breeder" where she was bought from let her go with parvo virus and hook worms. The vet said has she gone any longer she would have died from loss of blood from the hook worms and/or dehydration from the parvo, she didn't know which would do it first. Cost us a small fortune too.

We of course were furious with the young lady who'd said her friend just couldn't take care of it because her boyfriend was mean to it and they'd just had a baby. Really they couldn't afford it because she was so deathly sick. They'd even tried to give her Pepto to get her to stop vomiting, but of course that didn't work. Poor thing :( But she wouldn't tell James where she'd bought it, she said she forgot , otherwise we'd have reported the "breeder" to animal control and would have had her shut down. Goodness knows how many others she's sold sick puppies to, and how many litters have suffered so horribly, and how many litters the dam had to give every year. A Saint Bernard usually has litters between 8 and 12 puppies. That's a lot of sick dogs! :( Plus, we were told she was 9 weeks old when we got her, but there was no way. She was more like 7 weeks, which means she was less than 6 weeks when she was taken from her litter and dam. She never did figure out how to play nicely. Which is fine with Bruno, he outweighs her by 50 pounds. But she's really rough with other dogs, and she's not allowed at the local dog park :o

Yea, when we got her, she had 3 different types of worms, was living with 11 other dogs is quite a small area... with pee everywhere. Not to mention that they all had fleas!

But we fell in love with her! We knew what she had, was no to expensive to fix and we wanted to give her a good home. We were planning on waiting till 8 weeks or later but the guy gave us a call and said that his girlfriend told him to either sell or get rid of the dogs or he had to move out. So, we went and got her that night.

Since then, we have gotten her de wormed and got her first vaccination and got rid of the fleas. We recently found out that the "breeder" still had some of the dogs at the house. We talked about maybe bringing her back for a week or two... but then she would get worms (from the mother) and fleas again. We just decided that it would be best for her to stay with us.

I reallyyyy hope that we can avoid any behaviour problems... but we will see!

If the dogs are living in sub-standard conditions I would report them to the local officials who handle animal cruelty investigations ASAP.
