Hello Vjers! I went yesterday at DMV to try my luck if I can get at least a State ID or even a temporary ID whatever that called since a friend of mine got one last time here in the same State also showing with just her NOA for AOS. I brought with me my NOA,Biometrics letter, marriage certificate,passport/visa though the K1 I-94 is already expired and my SSN. Oh well, as expected because I was assigned in the window who has this scary face lady...she rejected it because she said I need to wait for my GC. I still explained that why was my friend last time has been granted for just just bringing the NOA? No comment. So I end up going home with nothing.

Are there any chance to get some ID? We were trying to open a joint savings account but the lady from the bank wants me to have some proof of residency. We tried putting my name in the lease of the house or lot but then the office is asking for a $150 for a background check? That much? Whew!!!

Pls help me what to do... thanks!

I just saw in your timeline that your husband applied for a State ID and received it....I never thought of that possibility!

I thought that only US citizens can get one?!

What's the deal with the State ID? Anybody?????

Hi! I checked out our Motor Vehicle Administration website and knew that people could get an ID card that wouldn't be a driver's license. I just followed the rules and after he got his SSN, we went down with all the required documents and got him one. Mind you, this was before his I-94 expired. He wouldn't be able to get one now because it is expired...

I would check out your local MVA type place online and see what the requirements are. If you're already into the AOS process, you might have to wait until he has the papers.

I was super paranoid that he might lose his passport/visa as he was carrying it around for ID. I knew it would be safer for him to just have the State ID for every day use!

You need a green card to get a state ID. NOA paperwork can be forged, and is useless without the green card.

Ok, I'll qualify my answer.

In Indiana you have to have a green card.

I can't imagine that any state would let you get a state ID with just an expired I-94 and a NOA, though.

First off, your I-94 only rexpires in 90 days if you do not get married. Your timeline shows you were married in 36 days after arriving.

The Deleware DMV web site states: Non-immigrant/Temporary - Expiration date limited by authorized stay in U.S. Verify through SAVE. We can not issue document without SAVE vertification. Did the lady run your I-94 Alien number through the computer? (yes, their website has a typo on verification)

If not, print out the Determine Legal Status/Authorized Length of Stay portion of their webpage and go back or to another DMV office. Hope fully, a different officer wil know more.

The webpage link is: http://www.dmv.de.gov/services/driver_serv...c_gen_req.shtml

You should have the neccessary Identification Documents of:

1. Valid passport U.S. If foreign, appropriate INS document also is required

2. Marriage certificate/license

3. Social Security card or Ineligibility letter from Social Security Administration

If this does not work then you may have to wait for the green card, since you are dealing with a government office.

Naturalization

3/23/14 - N400 package sent to Phoenix

3/27/14 - N400 package delivered

4/3/14 - NOA1 receipt date

4/4/14 - check cashed

04/29/14 - biometrics date

07/01/14 - interview date

xx/xx/xx - Oath Ceremony

The I-94 for a K-1 visa DOES expire in 90 days, even if you get married in the required time.

Thanks a lot for this info.. I will try my luck on Monday and hopefully with another lady. Nope she didn't even look up on my passport wherein attached my I-94. I just had the guts to try cause they gave a temporary ID to a filipina friend of mine here.

Thanks a lot for everybody who responded!

It definitely varies state-to-state.

In Indiana, they verify your documentation with Homeland Security. So, you get to wait through the process again. It took Mags something like 3 months to get her Indiana ID.

I don't remember what all she needed.... bill in our name, passport, SS card, & greencard I think.
