wake me up when you hit 96 hours a week.

Same here when you hit 112... Though that's not my highest ever worked.

Theoretically I'm always working since I live in the truck and am responsible for the equipment. I'm actually home today (24 hours off). It's the first time in a few months. Tomorrow I fly to Chicago, take a taxi to Hammond, IN, sleep a few hours, meet another driver, drive to Memphis, catch a flight to Newark, take a cab to HQ and get my NEW TRUCK! All of my a$$ kissing is finally paying dividends.

You cost your employer far more than you are worth you lazy son of a ###### :D

I can't argue with that.

Corporate America, the joke's on you!

And there is always somebody that will swim across the river and do what you do for less money. That's the way they like it on the planation. Keep 'em hungry and keep 'em skeered.

What river can I swim across for mo' money? Ain't none...'mericans are topped out.

You'll see. Been a long time since the 'ol USA had double digit unemployment. We'll see what jobs 'mericans won't do. ;)

People who can do my job don't swim over a river.

They fly in on visas that were first instituted into law by Congress insisting they'd be temporary, but in fact are anything but.

And that raise you've been counting on...forget about it! You'll be lucky to stay working with a pay cut! ;)

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

:secret: i got a raise about a month ago. and another one coming in march!

my employer tried outsourcing. it didn't work for them, 'the business' was unhappy

Same for me in the offshore oilfield. The kids can't hack it and they are stuck with us old guys. They keep sending these kids out to us to be trained, but...maybe 10% end up turning out and the others wash out for a multitude of reasons. It's an easy job and the pay/benefits are great. I don't get it.

You can't easily outsourse my job, but nobody wants to work anymore. As my daddy used to say, "They ain't hungry enough". It's been too long since 'mericans have been hungry. It will be hilarious when it happens...and it's coming. The chickens are coming home to roost. Boo-hoo! Welcome to reality. Even Obama can't save you. Ha! Ha!

See, the problem with USians is that they think:

work hard

not smart.

If any of you US citizens have ever checked into the work schedules of people in Europe you would cry.

Minimum 6 weeks off per year, plus.

They know what is important.

No one lies in their death bed saying, "I wish I had worked more."

As for me, I am switched on 24 hours/day, 365 days/year.

An entrepreneur (freelance and contract) that has learnt sometimes you work with hardly any sleep and get it done...and then take a whack of time off to play.

My work is play to me anyways.

So all in all it is win/win/win.

I set it up that way.

Just the way I like it.

You know you create your reality!

Coming from AUS I do find that here in the US a lot of people seem to feel the busier their life is, the more successful they are. The people at work who have kids also seem to live vicariously through their kids lives. Obviously I live in a large metro area where people are driven by money so this observation does not apply to every part of the US. Smaller cities and towns tend to have a completely different work ethic and community spirit.

I certainly don't live to work but I work to live. Spending time with family & friends and traveling is much more important to me that a stupid title. The most satisfaction I get is from helping someone out.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I really do find this funny, boasting about how few waking hours you can call your own because your ####### is owned by management. Sad indictment of what America considers important - family life? Beh, who needs it, right?

Now Jndp, no one works 24 hours a day :)

wrong. the military does.
