wake me up when you hit 96 hours a week.

Same here when you hit 112... Though that's not my highest ever worked.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senator Barack Obama
Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

I think I work 24 hours a day.

Can't be sure.

But I do have 8 weeks "off" in the summer. Can't complain.

Since I believe in living simply and not working my butt off, can I still be a liberal?!

I really do find this funny, boasting about how few waking hours you can call your own because your ####### is owned by management. Sad indictment of what America considers important - family life? Beh, who needs it, right?

Now Jndp, no one works 24 hours a day :)

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I have a choice. I could take a 30-40k paycut and work for the state.

And by the way, have you seen my post count? :P That's how I "work"

If you are saying you can be 'on call' and do stuff for yourself while still getting paid, that's always cool. If you are saying that you spend a lot of time sitting in front of a computer, so somehow that compensates with time spent with your family? Well, of course then it's a matter of what's more important to you and your family, time at home or the money you bring in.

Working isn't that important to me :)

Oh fine. I was bluffing.

True though, I do live very simply so that I may work in a career I love and still have time for my family. I spent most of my son's early years working two jobs, going to college/grad school, and barely having a moment to breathe and enjoy him. I don't have tons of luxuries, by choice, because I choose to work in a career I love that gives me great vacation time for far less money than I could get working for, say, Microsoft.

The big problem we have. We want to work hard so that our children can have a better life and do exactly what we regret doing- having a job that owns your life takes time you will never get back away from your children. Doctor? Lawyer? Those are like 100 hour jobs. I guess I understand why Grandparents are so demanding- they want what they gave up.

If I could muster up the self discipline to exclusively work when 'working', I could be done in a lot less. On some weeks a lot less than 40, actually (but don't tell my managers that).

You cost your employer far more than you are worth you lazy son of a ###### :D

I can't argue with that.

Corporate America, the joke's on you!

And there is always somebody that will swim across the river and do what you do for less money. That's the way they like it on the planation. Keep 'em hungry and keep 'em skeered.

What river can I swim across for mo' money? Ain't none...'mericans are topped out.

You'll see. Been a long time since the 'ol USA had double digit unemployment. We'll see what jobs 'mericans won't do. ;)

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

People who can do my job don't swim over a river.

They fly in on visas that were first instituted into law by Congress insisting they'd be temporary, but in fact are anything but.

It's because of people like you that the economy is failing. You cost your employer far more than you are worth you lazy son of a ###### :D

If liberal is short for liberty, and liberty is freedom, for a so called democracy, yeah, I know we live in a republic, bout our corporate system is a pure dictatorship.

Tell you how to dress, how to behave, what time be be there, what time you can leave, when you can eat, what you can eat, when you can use the restroom, when you can go on vacation, cut that short if their are problems they need you for, when you have to travel, how long you will be away, how much work they expect out of you, with no consideration for your family, in a sense you are nothing but a slave to the company store.

So I quit and started my own business, does require skills that are not easy to find. Since I no longer have to support stockholders, and a bunch of other deadwood, set my own schedule and can live very comfortably working twenty hours per week. And finally have some freedom. Kept myself debt free and even have a couple of bucks in the bank, and have time to help my kids, but my wife comes first. Has to be that way.
