USD-GBP exchange rate

Don't want to go into details, but I have reasons to believe sterling will move back

to around $1.50 in the next year or two - well below its PPP (purchasing power parity) level.

And here we are... at $1.4950, ahead of schedule.

Kris and I were just discussing how good of timing it is for the exchange rate to go in our favor. We will be heading back over to the UK for a trip in a few weeks as well. I'm sure we will be filling up on things as well.

Wow, and the rate keeps getting better (or worse depending on which side of the pond you are currently). It's good for me, but I imagine it's pretty bad for a lot of UK'rs who are wanting to convert their GBP's into $$.

yep. That's us! I think we locked in 1.53 right before the election for about 9,000. Two years ago that'd be about $2 to 1. UGH.

I hate it... The last month or so the 'losses' in exchange rate are equal to the sum of 'losses' of the 3 months previous.

I know we probably shouldn't complain as we are getting about 50% more in the bank than in the UK, but money is money and when you can't work for 3 months after arriving every $ counts.

Le sigh. I just keep saying, "Well, I get him! Money means very little in comparison..."

However, I am certain that if and when we move to the UK in 4-6 years to let possible future kids see their grandparents, the exchange rate will flip again.

We also benefitted very nicely from the 2 for 1 exchange rate. Then, I remember in Oct 2009, my husband wanting to transfer over more GBP, but wasn't satisfied with the $1.77 rate he was being offered. These days we're pretty much happy with anything over $1.50.
