Georgia? Really?

A new InsiderAdvantage / Poll Position survey shows Georgia is a toss-up state in both the U.S. Senate and presidential campaigns.

In the presidential race, Barack Obama has a slight edge over John McCain, although it is within the margin of error.

...

The results:

Presidential

Obama, 48 percent

McCain, 47 percent

Other, 2 percent

Undecided, 3 percent

...

Obama is doing better among white voters than Kerry did in 2004 (according to exit polls of that race), carrying some 28 percent of the white vote. He’s carrying around 75 percent both of the Hispanic and ‘other’ vote, which makes up between four and five percent of Georgia’s electorate. He is winning among independents, outside of the margin of error of the poll.

While this is a tight race, the problem for McCain is that all but 3 percent of whites have made their decision and approximately 8 percent of black voters have continued to say they are undecided or voting ‘other.’ This will likely move closer to 95 percent for Obama when all said and done. Obama has room to go up.

If the race were to remain the way it is today, you won’t see these numbers come to fruition until very late in the night of Nov. 4 or perhaps the next day. The early numbers will likely show McCain ahead, as the counties where Obama is doing best are some of the largest counties and will be the slowest to report.

I don't know if I dare say this. but I live in the State of GA and as people may think it is full of white country conservatives. It is the exact opposite (if you know what I mean).

So, to say the least I am not surprised.

(Oh and before people jump on me, I cannot vote and have not decided which party if any I will be joining when I do register)

Not surprising--that state has never been a hardline Republican or hardline Democrat state anyway.

Governor Perdue's (Republican) preceders in office were Barnes and Miller (both Democrats); GA Sen Isaakson's preceder in office was...Miller (the erstwhile governor).

(and Miller was the governor for most of the time I lived in GA)

On second thought.Lets just say that in all the Large counties it is primarily African American, the actual City of Atlanta is on the top five list of the highest amount of gays. Its a fact that is all! So I honestly would not be surprised if it swings Obama's way.

Translation: you have a lot of African-Americans in that state (a majority in some urban areas such as CITY OF Atlanta). Also, Elton John (definitely NOT a conservative) has a Buckhead (aptly named, one of Atlanta's pricier areas) home.

Basically, that state is a mixed bag.

To refresh your memory a little--the immigration forum confrontation with the clueless gora Pigtowner chopf#ck noising much about "anti-immigrant" sentiment occured when we both (I never actually MET the Pigtowner) lived in Metro Atlanta

LOL!

My spouse is from GA. What have I gotten myself into?

If you're planning to live in metro-Atlanta (and have hankerings for Brit candies/chocolates or Ribena), then you're in excellent shape.
