I will be upgrading my pending I-130 tomorrow ,I also changed my name to my married name during the naturalization process.I will upgrade the petition over the phone but for name change I have to send a letter.

My questions are

1.Do i really have to change my name on I-130?

2.When should I send them a letter to update my name change?

3.I am planning to do it after the case is approved and transfered to NVC ,becuase at VSC,it might cause further delay in approval,Is that okay?

Please suggest

Thanks

Whichever step in the process you are at, a name change can cause a delay. It's best to do it while your papers are at the USCIS service center, since they will already be spending much time there waiting for background checks etc...

Thanks for your reply,I called USCIS today to upgrade and asked her abbout name change.she told me to do it when it gets to NVC.I also think it can cause delay but ..... What can I do now.

May be I should wait to get all my other records like SSN,DMV and employer letter updated and do it when my hubby gets here. What do u think? I am confused :(

my wife hasn't, but wants to do the name change, thus I have the same question....

I figure cheaper to change name there before here and then have to fuss with the issue. But I don't want to delay the already long process longer.

You may want to see your local USCIS office (Field Office) and ask an immigration officer about your concern. You can always ask for their supervisor if couldn't get information you were looking for.

Its wise to probably contact NVC and ask them about the issue and see how do they deal with such situation.

I think that it wise to do the upgrade and name change with their appropriate forms at the same time while your application is in USCIS (Personal Idea)

To avoid any problem with your case in the future you should study this issue before taking any actions.

Good Luck

Yeah You are write,I should have researched before I went ahead and did it.I will call them on Monday and ask them and if it doesn't help I will make an infopass appointment. The USCIS lady said that I dont have to send the hardcopy of certificate as they should have a record of my citizenship,She didn't even ask for the certificate number or my A #.I checked and it has not been touched. What should I do,call to check them if it went through or send the hardcopy.
