Think bigger. Plants and wildlife going into mass extinction. Worldwide disease, natural catastrophes. We're already seeing the beginning of what is to come, however, we can dramatically slow down and perhaps reverse some of the human damage we've done to accelerate global warming.

Yeah, yeah. Worldwide disease and natural catastrophes are nothing new.

Plants and wildlife will adapt or become extinct.

We had constant global warming for the last 300 years, if that trend reverses, 2.5 billion people on this earth will perish, won't be enough plant growth to support the population. Can also expect mass wars. Perhaps with the oil companies screwing the airlines and automotive manufacturers, alternate fuel supplies that we do have, such as methane will be used instead. But there is little doubt we have an oil controlled congress, with many believing the strength of our dollar depends on it.

We knew this problem was coming over 40 years ago and haven't done a damned thing about it. If this BS about CO2 convinces people to start getting on their congressman, it does have it's good points, the final outcome will be the same.

By how many degrees would plants require the temperature to drop on a consistent, yearly basis for them to perish? Just curious. Its also no secret that plant biomass has decreased in those last 300 years as a result of human expansion.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Thanks for the thread Steven. Perhaps after we're done doing arithmetic we can look at the issue itself.

The issue is... global warming is unstoppable. Some people will get fukced. Others will get comfortably warmer.

You can either accept it or keep whining about it for the next 100 years.

People? Try whole ecosystems....and it's not about stopping global warming literally, but greatly reducing the human factors that are greatly increasing global warming.

if there's less people and there is also less places to live then we'll be ok. i'm serious about purchasing islands in canada. you all think i'm crazy but you'll see. they start at about $20K

Do you ever use an air-conditioner or eat meat?

Oh geez...not this line of skewed logic again.

I take that as a "no"?

Until you people who are so sold on the idea that "we can save the world" start to live like you believe it... don't expect the rest of us skeptics to follow.

You think buying one of those canvas grocery bags and changing your light bulb is going to make a difference you are dreaming.

You are going to actually have to give up the cushy life, voting for some tax-hike will only be taking a sugar pill.

If you travel to emerging markets you can see we are at the tip of the iceberg for energy use in this world.

Tell me, what sacrifice have you made so far, please.... INSPIRE ME>!

I don't live in a grass hut and live off tree bugs, Danno. What's your point? That we can't drastically reduce CO2 emissions reasonably? Horse hockeys. We sure as hell can with the will. There's already overwhelming public support for addressing Global Warming through changes in public policy, all we need is the political will. Hell, even people like Pat Robertson and Newt Gringich have jumped on board. We can make a difference and although it will require some personal sacrifice, it doesn't mean you'll have to eat tree bugs and live in a grass hut.

Lets not run to the extreme to mask your ability to make changes in your life style.

No one suggested you needed to live in a hut or eat bugs but I want you to give up your car, reside in a home of no more than 700 sqft no A/C and minimal heat. Plant food instead of flowers around your house and reduce meat consumption.

Under soviet socialism, my wife wived with two and three families in one aprt w/ one bath.

(lets hope our flirt with socialism is more successful)

My friend these are REAL ENERGY saving

steps you as a believer should take. (Not even drastic really)

The reason you don't do it is because you don't really believe all that Dooms-day Horse-Shitt you guys shovel.

The only part about it that bugs me is... you guys who talk all the "green #######" vote for tax increases to solve a problem which money can not fix.

Global warming "Is the new religion",

And just like almost every religion

it requires "Faith and redemption" for past sins,

donations,

prostelising,

threat of a dooms day,

infallible leaders.

infallible writings (reports)

paying of Alms (carbon credits)

Sacrificial giving (taxes).

The promise of salvation, if we adhere.

Hypocrites who preach one thing and do another.

There are billions of dollars to be made off this, the Y2K things was just a warm-up.

Business are going to market products and services to both consumer and Govt.

The Govt is going to have a money grab like we have never seen before.

Consultants and experts of every sort will grab on with both hands.

Now the one huge flaw with the Y2K thing was... it had a "certain date" where we knew if the whole world would crash or not.

The Beauty of Global warming is those who pay (you and me) are at the mercy of those who are sharing in the wealth- to tell us "when we are safe"- when the levels are safe. When we can stop paying for all these projects and commissions and foreign aid to other countries so they will comply with our standards.

Bend over and get ready folks, here comes the NEW RELIGION.

Its awesome to see your optimism in the spirit of human nature. I wish I had that but there's no way I believe that very many people in the U.S. are willing to make enough sacrifices to make a dent in global warming trends. Do you think China will reverse direction? How about Russia? How about the developing nations in Africa who are desperately seeking cheap energy solutions while their hydro-electric plants are cutting down their much needed water supplies and they're sitting on 50 billion tons of cheap coal. No matter what minute amount of CO2 emissions we in the US take, these other countries will be right there to quickly fill the void. We're doomed I tell you. Doomed.

They sure could reverse course if they got nudged in investing in the right direction. ;)

Including... us here at home.

Besides- environmental cause aside... who thinks we're going to rely on guzzling technologies and habits for much longer anyway? It would be too stupid to assume a 'yes' given all we've gone through as a world economy as of late. Eventually all that green fad will turn into financial common sense.

Indeed. People can't even solve some of the most basic problems, like food and water for everyone;

you really think they are ready to go green?

My a$$. Its not going to take a nudge. Domestically it will take serious regulation. For the rest of the world it will take nukes. By the time it becomes more economical for the average joe to go green the ice caps are gone- and when that happens there is NOTHING anyone can do. Sorry. Doomed. By the way, do you think there is any chance at all that all of the ice that is melting is actually going to stop melting? Dude, they are just a couple decades away! Nobody has ever said they are going to actually reduce temperatures in any short term, just reduce the rate of emission growth, and then maybe by 2020 actually reduce emissions- but that is only in the U.S, Europe, and a few other develped countries!! Every day we stay exactly as we are the ice caps will melt at least at the rate they are melting now, and we aren't staying the way we are- we are getting worse. It is going to take a giant ice cube the size of australia in the next 10 years to stop the ice from melting. Other than than, forget about it.
