so, i called today to book my medical, and im just a little confused, i know now i dont need my interview letter to get my appointment, but she was telling me that the medical expires and that if i have other things to do i shouldn't book my medical yet, so what should i do, can i send in my check list without getting my medical yet? or can i check off the medical and make it look like i have it? i need to renew my passport, how long does that take? im just worried about this expiration thing, i dont want my medical to expire before i have everything else done

The medical expires a year after you get it. The medical needs to be still valid when you process your greencard stuff, so it's in your best interest to have the medical as close to your interview date as possible so you can get your visa, move to the US, marry, and get your AOS (aka greencard) stuff done before the medical is expired.

What I would recommend that you do is check what the current wait time for visa interviews are, and then book your medical within a month leading up to your estimated interview date. You have booked the medical, so you can check off that box on the checklist you need to send in with the rest of your package.

If something happens and your interview is delayed, simply reschedule your medical.

This way, you don't have to wait until you have your medical before you send back the checklist, and your medical will have a much later expiration date.

I don't remember offhand, but the guides on this forum as well as the packet you got from the consulate should tell you exactly what documents you are required to send in.

You mail in the DS-156 (in duplicate) and the DS-230. You keep the DS-156K (along with your birth certificate, police report, etc.) with you and bring it to the interview.
