Liberals vs. Conservatives

Hello VJers,

It has been quite confusing for me, a Canadian, as to these terms and flipping them in my mind whilst listening to the news or reading pages and pages of it right here on VJ.

It's like the water is on the wrong side here in Chicago, too, and my internal gyroscope needs to be recalibrated. Oops, I am digressing...

I am curious soul.

In Canada, Liberals are the ones that are pro corporations and capitalism, they cut social spending and kill off community organizations. Booooo!!! Shame!

The Conservatives are the ones that are interested in helping the people, restoring healthcare, keeping our resources nationally owned and not sold off to the highest bidder, etc etc.

That is basically it.

No mention of families of the parties, nor of their religions.

in political sociology....Canada's definition is correct.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

In Colombia it has the same meaning as here even though there are not so many political parties, you can't keep track of it. But we also have the Liberales and Conservadores.

Here Democrats are liberals which are supposed to be more open minded, more flexible, pro-choice, pro gay marriages, they seem to change with the times.

Republicans are more conservative, they're supposed to believe in old fashioned values, are pro-life, think homosexuality is not right, and want to keep this country the way it was 100, even 200 years ago. At least that's what I think of them.

Stephen Harper and the Conservative Party also plan on deconstructing Canada's health care system and trying to make it more like the U.S. private healthcare mess.

Since we plan on giving Canada a good look, and I'd say are facing a 50/50 chance, maybe greater, in moving to Canada, the elections there are of some interest. I'd say personally I favor the NDP. Then again, that's just with what little I know so far beyond their principles and platforms (i.e. voting history, funds, etc.).

In Mexico they are all a bunch of azzholes.

The "left" is what you would call Democrats: pro-gay rights, public education, etc. (they govern the capital)

The "center" represents those sons of b1tches who governed my country for more than 70 years.

The "right" is in power now: extremely conservative; against gay rights, etc.

It is too complex to give a quick answer.
