hey I'm a food person. i love food, i love eating, i love cooking for people, i love to see people enjoy what i've made for them, i love to make food look sexy, etc. eating should be exciting for all your senses not just your mouth :P

i'm the same, i love watching people eat my food and enjoy it. if you make it look bad it won't go down well, it is all about presentation.

i still swear i'm the only person here in this city who checks the back of items to see how many calories/nutrients they contain. it isn't rocket science.

weird. i read every label to see what's in it. i don't really like to eat anything that has something in it that i don't know what it is.

me too, that's my british side coming out though. here in mississippi (the fattest us state) people are more worried about how they are going to afford shoes than what's in the food they are buying.

Is that a British thing, label reading? I do that too. It's amazing what's in some so called 'foods'. Honestly, I find it wierd that anyone would eat something and not have at least a clue about what is in it. I think that is why I prefer to cook for myself using fresh and simple ingredients.

i think we are more aware of it now (in the uk) because we have those huge labels on the front of packets stating the calories, salt, fat, sugars etc. i definitely don't think it is very normal for people to question what is in the food they are eating, in ms anyway. i don't see any drive here to encourage people to eat healthily either, despite it being the "fattest" state in the us.

I was joking. Labels on food are great. They have them here of course, but they are too small to read if you need reading glasses and you haven't quite got around to doing anything about it!

now we have the labels on the front of packs as well as the back with colors and percentages either of the portion size or your recommended daily allowance.

the nanny state is bad in a lot of instances though, for example this is near where i'm from;

Swings in a Wiltshire village have been removed because they are too tall under European Union (EU) rules.

Great Somerford Parish Council said it was shocked when the annual inspection of the playground found the swings were 20 inches over regulation height.

EU edict, European Standard BS EN 11 76, states that swings must be no more than 9 ft 11 ins tall.

The inspectors advised the council it would be good practice to remove the "offending equipment", although it was not compulsory for them to do so.

Unintended consequence

Toby Sturgis, chairman of the parish council, told the BBC: "What is so ridiculous is that the height of the seat from the ground met the required standard, but the height of the frame did not."

"We welcome safety regulations, but they should apply to new equipment when it is put in.

"These swings has been there for 25 years and are inspected every year.

"To deprive children of this was not recognised as a consequence of this directive."

To replace the swings will cost £2,500.

i'm pretty sure they removed them, leaving the kids had nothing to play with. :o

Well, yes and no, as always - but of course, replacement would have been better than take it away and leave nothing. Meh, councils use regulations for their own agendsa sometimes too.

A cook book? How cool is that - however, I have issues with cook books. They are normally full of recipes I would never bother with because they are just too much for every day cooking and only have one or two things that I am interested in. However, if it's full of pretty pictures it'd be cool :D
