Its a strange argument - but one I've heard before in other contexts: that having expressing an opinion is some sort of infringement on the free speech of others.

meanwhile it is fine to have the opinion that the rest of the world is irrelevant... and people wonder why america isn't the most popular country in the world.

Well we are always ready to go and bomb anyone that disagrees with us. What a shining beacon of hope to think that way...

more people need to read this. ;)

Six Ways to Make People Like You

* "Become genuinely interested in other people."

* "Smile."

* "Remember that a man's name is to him the sweetest and most important sound in any language."

* "Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves."

* "Talk in the terms of the other man's interest."

* "Make the other person feel important and do it sincerely."

yay for the world. who cares?

You should care.

Sly

when the world can vote for the us president, then i will. until then, it's a non-story.

Ah, the next election should be fun then! Because I will be able to vote!

Seeing as we, the immigrants coming here from the world, will be able to vote eventually, you should care.

Oh, and the whole "if y'all want to get something done globally, you should give a teensiest ####### about what others think of you so you have more success when trying to get something done" should make you care too.

the day world opinion impacts how americans vote, that's the day america stops being america.

Yup. The world would love a weak American president.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Before you can even talk about interfering, your own President just had ordered killed another President that the U.S. government installed. This person tortured his own people and was once a threat to other bordering nations.

When the U.S. can stop interfering with other nations, especially sovereign ones (note the rhetoric on Abkhazia and South Ossetia, like it's part of Georgia, or the raids into Pakistan soil), then you can talk with some validity. If you're gonna be the world police, I'll take key advice southern family likes to give people -- you sure as #### better clean up your own back yard first before looking into someone else's.

This sounds like "after Black Monday, President FDR addressed the electorate on TV".

Saddam wasn't actually installed by the US, nor was Zia ul-Haq***--and FYI, the orders for Zia's death came from his successor as ACOS Aslam Beg (like Zia, unremorseful warcriminal--though unlike Zia, actually did short POW time till March 1972).

***Also, why would any country want to blow-up its own ambassador to another country?

You are right. He wasn't installed. He was just what you would call an ally.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Well... its a matter of perspective I think. Saddam wasn't physically installed by the US but he certainly was courted and supported by the US when he did assume power - against the Iranians (after they rejected the leader that we did install in '53).

The term for that is "horsetrading"--about as old as politics itself.

though that doesn't absolve the US of obvious interference such as Ike's removal of Moussadegh (contrary to the misconception that he was a popular elected leader, he was actually a dictator just as unpopular as the Shah--unfortunately Ike managed to transmogrify him into "martyr") or Bubba's "loaning" of James Carville to Ehud Barak's 1999 election campaign.
