Police departments prepare for civil unrest after election

Someone mentioned the words civil war the other day on NPR.

We are living in interesting times.

Has this country been so polarized in recent history??

Police preparedness should be important. After the recent shows of implied violence by anti-Obama lunatics, I'd be hard pressed to not see some nutty, angry, Republican doing something rash on or after November 4.

I certainly will try to go to Grant Park to see Obama accept the election night results. Hopefully Secret Service and Chicago Police will be doing their jobs to keep him, his family, and his supporters, safe from harm. Lest we be reminded that the 'original' case of domestic terrorism in this country was performed by an ultra-right wing lunatic.

Now that would be the coolest thing to be able to witness.

And I thought, "Wow! Yes! Yes, I will go too."

And then my next thought was:

that is where something terrible might go down.

I would never have had such thoughts back home in grand ol' Cannuckland.

Shame on me?

Today I saw a kerfuffle outside the public library in Lincoln Park.

Quiet Lincoln Park close to DuPaul College.

Some older dude was out there with little hand-made signs with "No Obama" on them.

A younger guy (a student) was asking him to go away and to stop that.

The older guy was getting violent.

It wasn't pretty.

The student told him he was nuts (I guess) and walked away.

i'm more concerned about what chaos will ensue IF Obama wins... not if he loses.

Why does anyone have to be concerned if ANYONE wins? Was there police readiness in 2004 in cities around the US?

Naaah... in all seriousness, probably nothing will happen regardless of who wins... We'll all just click to the next channel and keep going as usual.

Just important to note that people are energized about this election on both sides. It is an exciting election, when you sift through all the ####### about lipstick and terrorists and donkeys... People are energized and i think that sometimes in the media we see the intolerant sides of a few and select individuals.

But no, barring an overt violation of voting (or civil) rights, i don't think there will be anything eventful other than the election of a new president and all that entails...

i think we're all too lazy to protest or demonstrate or riot...

not me though,

i plan on rioting regardless of who wins.

For the rest of society- in the unlikely/likely place that some trailer trash/non-trailer trash white folk decide to enact their frustrations out on others, then I guess we can expect those that silently defend such racist/fanatical actions would also seek to label other groups and their 'shortcomings' in whatever appropriate manner they see fit.

the point ihs to rise above deragatory terms and not become an eye-for-an-eye type of insult artist.. if someone says white trash or trailer trash it doesnt mean you should think it's ok to use the wetback term or any other racist term.. the truth is you should acknowledge all these insults are immature and hateful and you shoudl rise above it.. not fire back because you want to get someone back, it makes you the exact same.. ignorant and racist.
