Yeah, as of some time in March, Dr Chana was no longer doing immigration physicals. At some point, they did have at least one doctor in Saskatchewan as well, but that is no longer the case. The consulate claimed they were going to get a new doctor for Edmonton, but I guess they haven't.

Dr Morgan can schedule an appointment around your interview date, and the consulate is willing to give you the interview before the medical (if, for example, you have an interview on a Monday or Tuesday), but you will need to bring them the results before they can issue the visa, and hotels in Vancouver can be pretty expensive. I think you could probably ask them to give you an interview on a Thursday and they'd accomodate the request.

Not very many Saskies around! I am from Regina.

I sure hope they will be accomodating! I am still going to have to spend 3 nights in Vancouver at the very least. I am thinking ahead because we have not yet filed for K-1 yet but will be in the next few months. I just hope CSC is decent when we do! Heck maybe by the time I get to consulate stage there will be a doctor in SK!

I just thought of another question..by the time I get to the US it will be late 09/ I am thinking(hoping), but I know you can never plan for anything with immigration!..My passport expires june 2010...I know I need 6 months validity to travel, but what applys to a person on K-1? How soon before expiry can you renew a canadian passport? Will I need it renewed before my interview? I tried looking on passport canada website with no luck.

Thank you for your replies!

My husband renewed his Canadian passport a year before it expired. He went in person to a passport office and they asked him why he was renewing it early and he told them. He renewed his early just so he wouldn't have to deal with renewing it while living in the US or with getting a copy of his visa to go in the new passport. Whether it is NECESSARY for you to renew or not, I'm not sure, but it is possible and may be more convenient for you.

When I had my medical with Dr. Morgan in August 2007, I met another K-1 applicant there who'd had her interview the day before. She had been approved pending the results of her medical, which she brought to the consulate after picking them up from Dr. Morgan's office = 2 days that she had to spend in Vancouver. She would've spent 2 days there anyway as the Vancouver consulate has visas ready the day after successful interviews.

My experience with Dr. Morgan was fine, and every review I've read of him has been good. Actually you spend only about 5 minutes with him. The rest of the time you're filling out paperwork, getting blood drawn, getting a chest X-ray, taking an eye exam, or waiting between these steps.

I am happy that Vancouver would be flexible and let applicants submit medical results after the interview! and pick up the visa next day! Do you remember how much Dr. Morgan's medical cost? Do you do the X-ray and bloodwork on site at his office? or Does he send you on a wild goose chase around Vancouver? LOL.

Thanks in advance!

I did just that...interview on Tuesday and then my medical on Wednesday. It was $350, and they did the xray and blood work in the same building. It was very easy and painless, but you have to be there really early, like 6 am when they open and I think we were there until 11 am. Then we went back at 3 pm to pick up the results. Actually, we were there early as the consulate had told us to bring the results back at 3. I let the receptionist know that we needed the results asap and they did the best they could to get it out early. We then raced back to the consulate and skipped the giant line (thank goodness!!!) and handed our results in. She took them briefly into the back, then called me back to the window and said that everything was okay and that the visa was approved. We then had to go back the next day to pick up the visa. We had to stay 3 nights, but it sure was worth it. If you've got anymore questions you can pm me. I also have the email address of the receptionist/nurse at Dr. Morgan's office, who was super helpful.

We went to Stanley Park on the last day there and it was great! I wish we had spent more time there though. We loved Vancouver. It was the first time for me and the second for him. That's funny considering he's the USC. We decided that if we were to move back to Canada, that would be where we'd live.

Hi Tangie,

Unless things have changed - you can choose to see any Panel Physician on the list, just so long as they have room to take you. Once you're ready to schedule the medical, you can call the physician in Vancouver to set up an appointment. You would then take the exam results with you to your interview in Montreal.

I think people are trying to schedule the two close together in MTL or Van because they don't have a panel physician in their province anymore and don't want to travel 2x.

Once you get your letter from NVC, you can start trying to schedule to see the doctor. My doctor (who isn't doing them anymore) didn't even need the appointment letter, rather just wanted to see the NVC case number.

Cheers,

Cat

You can have your medical in Vancouver before your interview the only thing to remember is that Dr. Morgan only does them on Wednesdays. The results are ready same day though. I had my medical Oct. 29 and am traveling to Montreal Nov. 4 and there where several others that where heading to Montreal soon.
