I am just getting started in this process- and just wanted to know if i could be pointed in the right direction for a current up to date list of all things that need to be included in the inital K-1 Visa application packet? I have seen alot of different sites that list different things and am not planning on using an attorney so want to be sure that I do this the correct way the first time and dont create additional problems for us.

Thanks in advance for your help-

Brooke

Read the Guides above for some great advice.

Folks here could answer you more meaningfully if you create a VisaJourney timeline to the extent that you can create one. Barring that, it would help if you were to post more details in a message -- which country your fiance is from, a bit about the length of your relationship, your ages, etc. This is because there may be some potential "red flags" that could bite you after the USCIS paperwork process (at the consular stage), and you would want to include some "proof of relationship" information in your I-129F filing. Let us know, and we can help. :)

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

You can do a google search, "tips on assembling I-129F package". This site, as well as other similar sites have pages devoted to that subject. The USCIS also has a page on the subject. I have it bookmarked and on my desktop, but can't get it to show as a link here. The page title is "general tips on assembling applications for mailing". It covers general information about preparation of various applications to be sent to USCIS. If you do a google search of that title it will be the first item listed.

Below is the list of documents that I sent and their order in the package. This was included in my cover letter. In the "proof" categories you may have more documents. If so include them. Our package was accepted and approved.

* Payment in the amount of $455.00

* I-129F

* I-129F Supplement: Part B, Question 18: explanation of meeting in person,

* G-325A and passport style photograph (petitioner)

* G-325A and passport style photograph (beneficiary)

* Copy of birth certificate (petitioner)

* Copies of divorce decrees (petitioner

* Letter certifying intent to marry (Petitioner)

* Letter certifying intent to marry (Beneficiary)

* Proof of having met with in the last two years

a. Copies of travel documents and stamped passport pages

b. Photographs of petitioner and beneficiary together

* Proof of ongoing relationship

a. Copies of E-Mails from beneficiary

My best wishes to you and your fiancee.

Thank you for the replies- I guess i am just reading alot about things getting held up and I want to be sure I am using the most current information and get this right the first time-

For a bit of background- I am in Utah- He lives in the United Kingdom. I have been married before and have three children, he has never been married and no children. I am 30 and he is about to turn 30. We met online in August of 2007 but the actual relationship started in February 2008- He came out to Utah in August 2008 for four weeks, and will be spending five weeks here again in December. We plan on getting married as soon as we can get the visa and I am reading all of the information that I can so that we can try to get things mailed off by November and get the ball rolling.

I am planning on using a co-sponser for income because I am self employed and think that additional income will provide some strength for us?

Also- is it correct that the office i should file with is California?

Thank you all for your help so far, I am taking it all and using it the best that I can. I can see this is going to be a process and its important to me to do it right.

This is very wise of you, and you'll find almost all of the information and support that you need right here! It sounds as though your relationship history is strong enough to pass the consular stage later -- and you're definitely fortunate to be dealing with London (low-fraud post). See the "Regional Forums" for threads specific to London.

You're a sharp lady, and very gracious, and you're definitely welcome here! :)

Hi fellow Utahn! You do file in California...I'm from Utah as well and that's where my petition went....and thanks to the ability to read English, follow instructions carefully, the help from everyone on this sight, and the grace of God, I just had my K1 petition approved in four months through the California Service Center, without a lawyer like many others here...just read everything you can on this website, follow the guides, and the instructions for forms found on the USCIS website, ask questions here...they always get answered - but also know, almost all questions have been asked, so searches through past forums are also a great resource....

I would agree with others--we filed using the information, guides, and examples on this site without the assistance of a lawyer and received our NOA1 and NOA2 with no problems. Our application is now in transit to London! I wish you the best of luck as you file your application.
